Oregon Locations

Winchester Bay is great ! We were there all summer in 2012 . Good Crab, Oysters, fresh Salmon and Shell Fish . The sand dunes are great fun . Bring warm coats .

We spent the last two summers on the North Oregon coast, Cannon Beach with USF&W. We were able to cover the Columbia River/Portland/SW Washington area on daytrips.
The coast is beautiful and worth the time you can spend there. The weather along the coast is shall I say moist generally till mid July but is awesome just the same. The Oregon State Park offers camping along the coast http://www.oregonstateparks.org/index.cfm?do=visit.dsp_find some of the best beach walking and vistas anywhere.

My mom & dad rented a TT that we hooked to the bumper of our car in those days. We hit all the Oregon state parks on 101. Started at Astoria went all the way down coast to the Oregon/California border. Summer of 1967. Had two weeks. Was a great trip. The Oregon State parks were some of the best kept up parks in the US. Have not been back since 67. Any condition changes to the state parks now days? Still the same? enjoy the trip.

PS. Check out Honeyman state park in southern Oregon where the ever shifting sand dunes are.

Winchester Bay is a nice park....not close to Astoria or Portland though. And....Oregon State Parks has a 14 day limit on staying.

Winchester Bay was very very nice...one of our favorites traveling the Oregon Coast into Washington.

We stayed in Westport WA on the coast just North of Astoria and if you like take a look at our Trip Journal entry for Westport and other stops on the way to get there along the Oregon Coast.

You guys are great! We will look into these ideas and get our act together. We are starting our first long trip for 8-10 months this fall starting in Arizona and work our way thru Oregon and spend next summer somewhere cool?? Maybe Montana high country. Thanks and keep it up!!

That said, look at staying 2 weeks and then moving up the road, so to speak, to the next interesting point - - it will take 2 months to go from Astoria down to the California border that way. Newport is a nice town, aquarium is there, etc. Coos Bay/North Bend another area to explore.
