Security System

We are full-time in our RV but still working for a few more months. We've been asked to become camp hosts for a park that hasn't been open in recent years and had all their copper electrical wire stolen from the sites recently. I don't have a problem being in the camp ground at night alone when there are no campers but I do have a problem with the RV sitting alone all day and sometimes at night while we are away. Has anyone installed a security system in their RV and did you have any issues since most I've found are hard wired? I don't like the idea of putting holes in the outside and running wires inside where they are unsightly. We have no idea how soon the campers will start showing up.
  • I use to install security systems. If no one is around to hear the alarm, will that really stop someone?
  • Choochooman74....I was thinking of a Dvr system. I know nothing will prevent someone from going in and taking what they want. I was more concerned with the deterrent of cameras mounted on the outside and a hard drive I could search which might show a vehicle or face to show the police.
  • The security system on our home uses all wireless sensors. And a cellular link to the monitoring sevice. Trip it and within the minute the monitoring company has phoned. They call the cops if we don't pick up.

Any decent alarm company can do this.
  • Just to throw it out there, Straight Talk has a home security system. It alarms and calls you. You can then decide what to do about it. I know nothing else about it other than it uses wireless signal, so you must have cell service. I think it's about $30/month, plus the cost of the equipment at the beginning.
  • http://www.smarthome.com/_/index.aspx has wired and wireless systems that will auto dial out using a cell phone sim card. If you want a monitored system, you can add on the monitoring contract.
  • Thank you all for your quick responses. At first I was thinking of a DVR system that would give us video of the outside of the coach in the case of theft or intrusion but this system does nothing to deter the thief if he wants something left outside or our vehicles. Since we seldom leave things outside unattended and the vehicles are fully insured I think we are going a different route. After doing some more research I think the SimpliSafe system will fit our needs but I need to contact them to get a few more questions answered. They are the only system I can find that offers all the safety features we want and will work dependent of a monitoring system when we are boondocking as well as monitored when we are at a campsite or within range of a cell tower. Thank you for all your suggestions and input.
