Do you still own property or rent property in MN? Can you remain a resident if you do not? TX healthcare is expensive and most SD healthcare options require you to be in SD to take advantage of any of the benefits. It's tough out there right now but the good news is that it likely better now than it will be a few years from now.

A quick check on Google showed a lot of options. I checked "Minnesota mail forwarding services".

Other states that you may want to research are Nevada and Florida. I have seen post on here and others that Fl had better options than SD, and on another site that some preferred Nv, because of their programs as an expansion state under the ACA. BUT with the ACA collapsing in many areas, and a new administration in place, any planning at this stage may end up being nigh on to useless.

You cannot have it both ways, so if MN is your choice for a domicile, I'm sure there are lots of mail forwarding service options. BUT - if you no longer own property, you'll need to make sure that whatever you choose provides you with a legal physical address, because that is what will need to be on vehicle registrations, DL's, etc. You may want to consult a MN attorney before jumping into this.

That will work assuming you have an "actual" residential address as this type of mail forwarding service cannot be use as your residential address. Few, if any, CC companies, banking or Government agencies would accept this as a legit address. Just be sure you get all the necessary details if you plan to stay in MN but don't have an actual address you can associate yourself with.

i just visited one of their physical locations. turns out that MN "snowbirds" use this address for banking, cc, mvd registration, etc.

For 10 of our 15 yrs of FTing, we were under the 'medicare age'. Over that time we domiciled in FL, TX and finally for 8 yrs in SD. Our D/L etc were from those states. We also however for all those years kept an address in our old home state. We 'rented' a closet in my brother's home and used that address for our continuation insurance. Pretty easy to do. Whenever (rare) it was necessary to write the ins company we merely used my brother's return address. When using 'foreign' medical services, like a hospital, we'd put in our PMB mailbox address and annotate it as "mail forwarding address only". We would try to obtain one medical service each year in the insurance state. I got a letter about 5 yrs in from my insurer noting that most of my claims were via other states and wondering about the PMB address. I replied that we were retired and took frequent trips to see kids, friends and places of interest and that, like my insurance company which uses a PO Box for premium payments, we also elected to have a mail drop where we could conveniently obtain our mail no matter where we were at the time. Even more legitimate today no that mail services will scan incoming mail for you and then open and scan the contents of pieces that you request and trash the rest.
