With your organizational skills - you should start a "Birthday /Residency Day" Party tradition in South Dakota for you and all your friends - the One Day in SD Party. Sort of the Sturges for RV'er's.

We could have a "one day excursion". One person stays the night and passes the receipt around to everyone else. Now before you get too excited, that person would have to stay the one night on Christmas Eve!, and shovel their way out of the CG......:B:B.....Dennis

We have the same situation as DH's birthday is April and mine is July. Don't wanna make a trip to SD in April. . . usually still too much snow. So he applies for and gets the extension. He reduces the size of the letter (it's not much so you can still read it) and carries it in his wallet. He's done that twice now and it works seemlessly. When we get there in July to renew, they ask if he has the extension and all is well.

Oregon definitely will tax your income 9 % over a minimum amount , 20 grand ? So the effective rate is lower depending on your NET income . It depends on what you can deduct to get it down. They do tax retirement income . Good news is drivers liscense is good for 8 years and you can be license as a " constant traveler " or so I was told
Beware Washington, no income tax but they will want the tax on your motor home value and car value at the time you move there 8% plus! depending on the city and county .. Some are more. There is no sunset on collecting that tax they value the vehicles at current value, license is reasonable though :) I called when I considered "moving" to my sons Spokane address they wanted 15 grand on my 13 year old motorhome

Dennis, have you considered other states, ie Texas, Florida and Tennessee, particularly from an income tax position?

Oregon tax's pretty well, dunno if I'd go there.

Unless you're considering a major purchase in the future, you might want to consider Washington. No state income tax and no special driver's license required.
