1st long trip

Well we bought our MH last August so we haven't had it long. But we took a trip from our home in Dearborn, MI to Baton Rouge, LA. Everything went great! Now my seat time was limited before putting them on but the air bags really took the sway out. I played with the air in them and 30# seemed to be the sweet spot for ride and control. I had no problem with the hills towing an enclosed 7X14 trailer with the Harley. I have not taken the time to figure out mileage, I figure it is what it is. Happy New Year everyone.

Glad you had a great trip, I don't check my gas mileage since I cannot do anything about it and it would only make me depressed. :B

Are you saying it didn't come with them? Does adding them void any warranty?

Here is what is stated in my owners manual -

    AFTER-MARKET STEERING AID DEVICES
Fleetwood does not sanction or condone the installation of any steering aid device that is not approved by our chassis manufacturer’s . Any add-on device of this type may void the chassis manufacturer’s warranty on the item or items affected.Safe-T-Plus

Maybe air bags don't matter. So I would need to contact Freightliner if I wanted to make improvements.

Fleetwood is referring to devices like Safe-T-Plus or Steer Safe.

The Magnus Moss Warranty Act doesn't allow manufacturers to void warranty if third party products are added.
  • I'm not sure about the warranty. I'm not sure why it would matter. I'm not adding or pulling any more weight then without them. But after having them I wont go without, much safer feeling.

  • I think that is a liability thing that Fleetwood does.

I wanted to upgrade my hitch and called Fleetwood. Their response was absolute no way.

I called Gillig the chassis manufacturer, their response was sure, no problem, we have that as a fabricated part, but if you want we will send you the drawings, which they did

  • Congrats on a safe and enjoyable trip. What you will find out with the air bags is that IF you are on a smooth road, like some interstate highways, and the winds are kicking up, just add some air to your air bags and it will do a lot to stabilize the coach.
I can handle 50 MPH gusts in the Great Plains if my air bags are inflated to around 80 PSI.
As you say with the mileage, it is what it is. Here's hoping for may other successful trips.
