We had a 2001 Dolphin on Ford chassis which is same as 2001 Tropical except for some accessory coach items. It was a great coach. We traded it in after over 80,000 miles for a diesel. Stable driving in strong winds. comfortable to drive and live in. Came with 500 watt inverter. I added 2000 watt inverter, two more 6v batteries and solar panels but was good coach without the extras, just more convenient for me.

If you can find one of these (SEE PICTURE IN PROFILE) in good condition you will be a happy camper!! (2000 Tropical model 6351, F53 chassis, 19.5 wheels, GVWR 21,500lbs, 3400 capacity) 122,000++ miles and still going strong and drives and handles as well as 90 percent of the diesels out there and I have test driven most of them. Only ones better were a Country Coach and a Foretravel. Engine noise and towing capacity are the best things a diesel has going for it and 90 percent of the time that is not an issue.

National did, indeed, make great coaches! The Tropical was a gas coach up until 2002 or 2003, when they became the entry level diesel for National.

I have several friends who own older model gas Tropicals and they love them. I had a 1998 Dolphin before moving up to our current Sea Breeze. Dolphi was an the F53 Ford V-8 chassis. Solid coach, ran well. I added a Banks Powerpack Exhaust system and got greatly increaased power and torque.

There are Natiional Owners FMCA Chapters all over the country. Lots of expertise available along with really nice folks.

I've got a 2000 National Seabreeze and we have been very happy with it and the Ford V-10. As said, it's rare when there is a negative comment on a National motorhome.

I've had two National motorhomes, an '87 Dolphin and our current 2000 SurfSide. Never had a major problem with either one. The Dolphin was so well-built that when it came time for a new rig, we again purchased from National and have never regretted that decision.

I have a National Tropical in the Diesel pusher version, and I'm happy with it. It's never give me any major problems. I don't know about their gas models, but in the DP they used an all steel frame and a one piece fiberglass roof. Most other motorhomes in the similar price range that I looked at had an aluminum frame and a rubber roof. This was the main reason I chose the Tropical.

I've always heard that National made good RV's. I have never owned one though myself.
