Really appreciate all of the great info here.
Trying to help out my parents with troubleshooting an ABS light on their 2003 Monaco Windsor 38PKD. The ABS light stays on all the time.
Parents had Cummins look at it on the last service. Here is what they noted on the invoice:
"Hooked up ABS program and ABS will not communicate. Says โNo ECU detectedโ. Tried alternate ABS program with the same results. Noticed that the ABS valves do not click at the key on indicating system self test. Checked ABS fuses in the front run panel and had power through both. The ABS diagnostic board has an LED that lights with the key on, but will not blink when the diagnostic button is pressed. Suspect the ECU itself to be the issue. Removed the ECU so that the harness could be disconnected. Plugged in a new Bosch/Eaton ECU and the system still did not perform the self-test or communicate with the Bendix Acom software. Replaced diagnostic board and the system still did not function. Disconnected the wiring harness from the ECU and verified power on pins 1 and 2 with key on, and good ground on 11 and 12. Harness seems to be OK. Tried Bendix program on another vehicle and the system communicated without issue. Still will not communicate on this coach, even with the black and green connectors unplugged. ABS system seems to be completely non-functional.โ
So after $520.00 of diagnostic (part of this was locating the ECU, which was apparently not in the spot they thought it would be), the ABS still isnโt functioning. Cummins obtained the wiring diagrams, but is estimating at least another 8 hours of diagnostic ($1040.00) work to figure out whatโs wrong. I understand and appreciate their time and expertise, but ouch on the price.
I reviewed several posts from others on here and tried to check out some things myself. I did verify that the diagnostic boardโs LED light illuminates with the key on, but nothing changes when pressing the button on the board. I turned everything off, as one poster had suggested, and pressed the diagnostic button a bunch of times in the attempt to โexerciseโ the switch, but nothing changed. I crawled underneath and looked at the ABS sensors on each wheel and they looked OK, but a little tough to see clearly. I didnโt pull them out of the housing, as I was a little apprehensive about doing this.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
