2003 Roadtrek window air conditioner prob .

First time having it on this summer and it was only blowing warm air . Since the van is 10 years old i am probably better off replacing my unit instead of getting it repaired , My questions are is it something i can do myself and how do i make sure i have the exact size .

Has anyone here experienced this . Thanks !!
  • Check your thermostat 1st - with all power off spray some contact cleaner on all switches and work them around a bit. Might be something simple like that. I have the KoolCat - thought it was failing - ended up just being the thermostat on the wall! ST
  • I replaced mine myself. It was a tough task I must say. I tried to get a dealer to quote the job but none would return my call. The Dodge (which is what I have) cannot use the Kook-cat unit that the Chevy unit uses.
  • Re: replacing it yourself

This PDF file for a 2000 Roadtrek to remove and replace air conditioner will help you decide if it is a DIY project. Your van is newer so it is not exactly the same but it will give you an idea of the work involved.

If so, head over to the Roadtrek group on Yahoo http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/roadtrek/ It is a topic that comes up often and there are current members that have recently done the job.
  • 1. I would check your electrical connection. Ours was doing the same thing once while we camped but when we disconnected and ran it with the generator on it was fine.

    2. If you run a search for years past in Class B with "Air Conditioner" you should see many posts.

We had to replace a couple of our units on our Xplorer and I remember that someone (years ago) replaced his and there are specifics in some old posts. We always paid to have ours replaced as we are not very...well, handy with things like that.

If you can't find that post let me know and I will search. I think I have it book marked somewhere.

Also, don't run your AC when parked on a slant...we found out that will kill the unit.

    1. Can you do this yourself? If you took it to a repair facility an employee would do the repair. So, it is possible for someone to correct the problem. Can you do it? You can best answer that question. Since I don't know you and I doubt anyone else on the forum does, I suspect no one here is equipped to answer that question.

    2. How can you make sure you have the exact size? I guess one of the best ways would be to measure the old unit and then to measure the new unit and compare.
  • Its a fedders built in ac 8000 but . worked last summer but won't this year .
