2016/2017 Geogetown 270S ?

the wife and i are looking into growing up and getting out of our toy hauler after 11 years and into a motorhome. looking at either a used kodiak based super c with the duramax or a new short class a gasser for cost and towing ability. im keeping my eyes out for that gently used loved super c which hasnt popped up yet. in the meantime, im starting to lean toward the class a unit. weve looked at numerous units but the georgetown 270S is what we find ourselves going back to every time. 28'10" overall length with a king bed is awesome! our 5er is 38' long so we are sooooo ready for a downsized rig to be able to actually camp in the mountains and such, not just big parks and open deserts.

anyone have experience with these units? it seems that they 'feel' higher quality than say a coachmen pursuit that is in the same price point. ive been around forest river toy haulers for years and while they arent the 'nicest' they always seem to be solid and reliable, but they are trailers, not motorhomes.

i should also note that ive never driven any motorhome before, what should i be expecting here? i know being used to my duramax truck is going to be a whole new/different experience in a motorhome, whether it be a duramax super c or a f53 class a...

thanks!
  • Georgetown makes a great coach but looking at the floorplan it seems to me that interior storage is pretty tight, not much room for clothes. Being short probably has a lot to do with that... With that floorplan you will enjoy the door right behind the passenger seat. The majority of coaches have a slide there and it limits how far back the passenger seat can go (or recline) when retracted. IMO that's the best arrangement plus you don't have the slide in the way of enjoying your awning.

coming from an older toy hauler, to us there is gobs of room (the 'cargo room' doesn't count ;) ) but i understand what you're saying.
  • Georgetowns are very nice coaches. I think if you are wanting to go up into the mountains, and want towing, go with the engine. A shorter C with a strong engine may be an ok optioin, but if mountains you want, nothing beats the view in a Class A. The big windshields in the mountains are great. The towing is also usually better in a Class A.

the only C that i consider is a super c on the kodiak chassis with the duramax diesel engine. zero interest in a standard class c unit.
