I just hope you are not thinking the Compass is a REAL Jeep. If you want a true Jeep to do real 4X4 off roading you will need the Jeep Rubicon with Lockers or the Grand Cherokee TRAIL Rated. The minimum for off roading would be the Wrangler Sport. Be advised that even the Sport does not have 'Lockers' so is not TRUE 4 wheel drive. If your salesman can't explain these differences in models, go elsewhere to buy.

Hopefully he's smart enough to know the difference. I don't get why ANYONE would want to own a Wrangler that they have to drive every day. I get the folks who like to trailer them to the mountains and go where they please but the Wrangler is one of the worst riding vehicles I have ever been in an love my Liberty. I have NO plans of taking it off-road but it does great in the snow!
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

Beware...not all 4wd newer Jeeps are towable with all 4 wheels down. I may be wrong but the compass is one that is not. Don't rely on the sales person giving you correct information. Our friend bought a brand new 2016 and ended up spending another few grand to make it towable and its a pain with all they have to do. Double check then check again...we have the Grand Cherokee Limited and we have to push a itty bitty button with a pin to make it towable.

BTW: All the Wrangler models even with Automatic transmissions are Sport, Rubicon, etc; are flat toable.

FMCA says the 2017 is NOT...โ€The โ€œAll-New 2017 Jeep Compassโ€ is an entirely new vehicle from the ground up. The new vehicleโ€™s owners manual specifies that the vehicle is NOT flat towable.โ€

The 2017 and 2018 are two totally different vehicles. All new for 2018.

From the 2018 Compass Owners Manual:

FWD can be dolly towed, or towed on a trailer.

AWD can only be towed on a trailer.

Unfortunately: NO FLAT TOWING ALLOWED FOR THE NEW COMPASS
