Yes, BUT, what he did is way more than is needed. The best way is to use the standard 30 amp power cord. Then install a 30 amp Auto transfer 120 volt box where he added the 2 extra outlets. The Genset feed goes from his original 4x4 box to the genset leads on the Transfer box. The OUTput to the rear AC goes to the output on the transfer box and the 30 amp shore cord is connected to the Shore cord INPUT on the transfer box. In this set up, it is ALL automatic, you do nothing but plug in the extra shore cord to run the rear AC and do NOTHING if you want the Genset to run the rear AC. Doug

This all seems a bit extreme to me. The load "shedder" does not keep both AC's from running at the same time. It keeps them from starting at the same time. I run both at the same time a lot. With a small oscillating tower fan on medium to assist with air flow, it stays tolerable inside.

I just added a 2nd A/C to my motor home. I have disconnected the rear A/C from the 20 AMP breaker on the generator and intend to add a 15 AMP Marinco inlet plug for running the A/C on shore power and add an outlet from the generator to plug the A/C, etc. in from the generator. The generator is 4800 watts and would be strained to run both A/Cs.

Does anyone see a better way to do this?

That is exactly how I suggest doing it Jumbo..the plan I used is based on a system that used to be sold by a company at www PSRV net (I left the dots out cause it does not work anymore).

The only thing they did different was an additional 20 amp breaker in the line to the A/C... I choose to trust the RV park's breaker.

I ordered the components yesterday to build this:



I will run one hot to the 20 AMP duplex outlet breaker and one hot to the 30 AMP RV outlet breaker. I am going to add a barn door handle to the box to make it easier to move around if needed.

If and when I need both A/Cs running, I will have a method as long as the campground has 50 AMP service.
