- SoCalDesertRid1ExplorerYes, ours was loud. It didn't have much interior insulation about the engine area. But it was very powerful and got great fuel mileage!
- My_RoadtrekExplorerIf anyone is interested here is the history of the Chinook.
Chinook models
The early Class B's (1970's) were pretty innovating for the time. I think they made Class B's up into the 90's.
Because of the placement of the engine, and housed in a doghouse, I think an older diesel would be very loud.

Chinook has reemerged with 2016 Class B models. Looks like in name only though. - SoCalDesertRid1ExplorerThe 6.0's in the vans had reduced output, compared to the pickups, and no intercooler. The van 6.0 tune was similar to the International VT365 tune.
Ford cranked up the tune too far in the 6.0's in the pickups. That is why the van 6.0's are less problematic than the pickup 6.0's. Less output = less stress on the engine = less heat, less pressure and less problems.
We had no problems with the 6.0 in our '05 E350, up to the time we sold it in 2015 with about 60k miles on it, if I remember the miles correctly.
I would still look for an E350 with the 7.3, instead of a 6.0. - KD4UPLExplorerWhy do you want the 6.0 diesel? Is it because you prefer diesel to gas and that's the diesel option or do you really want a 6.0?
I hope you've done plenty of research on that engine. As I understand it the ones installed in vans were slightly less problematic than the ones installed in trucks for some reason. Even slightly less problematic is still very undesirable in my opinion. We had two 6.0 Fords at work and I wouldn't take one if it were given to me. - big_whiteyExplorer

This is the first time I've heard of someone actually wanting a 6.0 specifically. Ford used the problem-free 7.3 Powerstroke diesel in the E350's from '95-'03. That is the one I would be looking for. - My_RoadtrekExplorerI think almost all the older Chinooks were Class C's. Lots of owners over in that forum.

- jtruxExplorerMust not be too common.
I've pretty much set my sites on a Chinook so I'm just trying to see what I will want when the time comes to pull the trigger.
I live in an old house that I'm fixing up so it comes first. I'm about to have central air and heat installed and the dining and living rooms are getting re-done, so my funds are being consumed by it. As soon as this is over in a few months, I'm gonna set aside some money for a Chinook purchase.
I'd really like to have a 6.0 powered one so hopefully one becomes available when I'm shopping for one. - tarnoldExplorerNot so! A couple of them in the Eastern club. Also some 5.4 V8.
- donn0128Explorer III think you will find Chinooks only came with gas motors.
