Ahhh, we went through this in September when DH bought me a Winegard Pathway II as a birthday gift. He went through a VERY similar conversation. Then we opened the box and all over inside it tells you to NOT call Dish and to call Winegard directly. After speaking with them it took all of 10 minutes to set up. BTW, we do use ours at home and on the road - built a little elevated stand for it and it is easy enough to disconnect and take it on the road :)
