Good morning everyone. Going to be nice here today, mid 50's, but tomorrow, WOW, high of 12. Life in the mid west. Gotta love it.I had thought about towing my 2005 Ford Freestyle on a dolly behind the C. After spending time visiting the son for 3 weeks in Dec. I changed my mind. He lives in Northen IL. And its just plain COLD up there. I guess the chill got to this old body and the arthritis started to act up. I thought about the dolly thing and loading,putting the straps on and then the safety chains and thought this old body won't like that.So I chanded my mind and decided to dinghy pull behind the C. The Freestyle can't be dinghy pulled. Last week I traded for a 2008 Chevy HHR SE, which can be dinghy pulled. That problem solved. Went to The St. Louis RV and Vacation show up in STL, early this month and caught the Blue OX tow Bar on sale, the Blue OX Patriot brake system on sale, and the baseplate on sale. I have the tow bar and brake system, waithing for the baseplate. Tomorrow or Tuesday I was told it would be in. Then the install starts. Bought the Tow Daddy plug and play wire harness kit to hook up the lights on the toad. Also the Tow Daddy Auto Fuse, which means I won't have to pull the fuse, this takes care of it automatically. Those two items should be here sometime late in the week. WWWAAAAHHHHHOOOOOO getting it ready for the road. First time out will be the weekend of April 11th, then at eh end of April down to the gulf.Safe TravelsBill

You will enjoy towing 4 wheels down.Yesterday was our warm day, got up to 15F. Today is bright sun, no wind but -13F this AM.

I have a 2007 HHR for a toad, don't even know it's behind me. And, I can carry my mobility scooter in it.

Have known alot of folks pulling a dolly with their small cars on them. Seems like most of them are forever changing out the curb side tire on the dolly. I'm guessing it runs on the edge or even off the road alot.. My neighbors pulls a car dolly and that is his number one gripe as well...I always try to stay as far to the right as I can get when going down the roads with my trailers. Guess this must be a big concern for those pulling dollies...Roy Ken

Check this out for your bikes etc. It's a cargo carrier. I had an inexpensive hitch installed on my Toad and bought a cargo carrier. They start at 50 bucks and go up to 200. They even have ones that the side drops down like a ramp.

I bought mine on sale for $50 at Tractor Supply. Holds up to 500 lbs.....and I have had more than that on it and it still held up!!

I use it for all types of stuff to schlep around while RV'ing, lawn chairs etc. Also lets you bring home some great treasures while traveling from yard sales and antique fairs you come across!. :W

They also sell an add on that clips right on to the carrier to hold bikes.

Hi ya Budster, thanks for the info on the HHR forum, I have bookmarked the site. The idea of a fuse switch is a good one. With my vision issues the days of me making something are over. the son in law was over yesterday to look at the towing stuff that I have so for, and we got online to look for a plug and play wire harness kit. As we were looking we saw a video of a automatic fuse switch. I ordered one now I don't have to even think about throwing a switch. Trying to get this setup as easy as possible. Nothing like SIMPLE.

Same here.
We put 2 scooters in the HHR.
It takes all that load out of the rear MH storage.

We're planning to do more travel in the MN in the future and don't want to flat-tow the '48 Jeep that much. I suggested we get a dolly, and DH responded, "I DON'T WANT TO OWN A DOLLY." Meaning, in addition to the MH, two street vehicles, a utility trailer for his airplanes, and the Jeep. So we bought the Fit and the Jeep is for sale. You have to draw the line somewhere.

One good thing to do is install a fuse switch for fuse #8 clicky here to get one. It keeps the ignition off when towing. Saves you from having to remove the fuse. You can build one as many of us HHR owners have done. If you have soldering skills it's a no brainer. Cut the top off a fuse, solder a couple of wires to the terminals, solder to a rocker switch that you mount on the fuse panel. Check out the HHR Forum, great guys, lots of help if you have an HHR problem.

Good morning RoyB, never thought the right dolly tire being so far over. I guess it is if you run to the right of the lane. I'm like you I prefer the right side of the lane. At least that won't be an issue with me.

I ride a trike, because of vision issue, I don't feel comfortable on a 2 wheel bicycle anymore. My trike will fit in the HHR, no problem with room to spare for my sisters bike. Really looking forward to the first trip with the toad.
