- downtheroadExplorerIt's up to you. Both require some amount of work.
I can almost assure you that your black tank will be just fine for a 1 week stay. (If not, you should consider changing your diet)....:)
If the dump station is far from your site. I think it would be easier to just drive your rig to it...easier than dragging or toting an auxiliary tank to it.
and, then there is the issues with bringing and storing a portable tank. - BusskipperExplorer

We have a Class A Coach. For the most part we have stayed in private RV resorts with full hook up. We are venturing out into some of the state parks without on site sewage disposal. The question is: Is it better to move the RV during an extended (1 week) stay to dump grey and black water or purchase a portable sewage caddy?
Having dry camped a number of times I ALWAYS will drive - just easier, only takes me a few minutes to unhook dump and reset up the Coach.
But that might just e ME.

This really depends on the size of your tanks and size of your family. I know 3 of us and our 30 gal black will only last about 4 days. But I tell everyone to use a lot of water. Anyway, I would unhook and drive, done it before, no big deal. - rgatijnet1Explorer IIIIf you drive to the dump site, you only handle it once. If you use the portable tanks, you get the pleasure of handling the waste twice.
Since we travel mostly during the Winter, no matter where we stay, we never hook up the sewer or water hoses except to dump the waste and fill the fresh water. We usually go 7-10 days between dumps. - rr2254545ExplorerI prefer to not have the smelly caddy around - in addition it poses storage problems. With just two of us the only way we can make it a week is using the shower and toilets in the campground most of the time
- Dale_TravelingExplorer IIEasier to drive. The advantage of a class A. Unhook power & water, bring in the slides and roll up the awning and your headed to the dump station.
The big downside of a portable is how do you get it to the dump station. If you have a toad easy if not,,, well 20-30 gallons of water can get a bit heavy and the station has away of getting further away with each step you make. - BTPO1ExplorerFor me it is easier to use the portable tote for my gray water only. For me it is too much trouble to unhook everything to go and dump. We only have to dump the grey water every 4-5 days and the black tank never fills in 2 weeks.
I guess it is up to each individual as to which way they want to dump. JMO - valhalla360NavigatorBorrowed one from a friend this weekend.
Next time we will just hook up and dump as it would be easier. - 2oldmanExplorer IIIt depends on how much time it takes to break down, drive, dump, then set up again.
In a 5th wheel it's a no-brainer to use a tote. I don't care if I have to make 4 trips to the dump with it. It amazes me when I see others breaking camp to do this, but to each his or her own.
A class A would be much easier to drive to the dump, I think. - dmck413ExplorerI use a pump to empty gray tanks into a tank I carry in the bed of the truck.Black tank doesn't fill in a week but gray tanks fill in about 4 days.
