Almost disaster

My neighbor has had the Toyota dealer forget to put oil in his truck twice in 2 years.
Crazy how sloppy people can be.
My son worked last summer at a local independent shop we use, and they have 2 guys on the car, and both have to sign off that they checked the oil level before it is cranked.

Mechanic (?) probably got a text on their phone and forgot what they were doing.
Everywhere I go I see people on the clock looking at their phone or on it.

Not to demean anyone that is working hard but stuff like oil changes are usually delegated to a junior mechanic. Now you may have one that is trying to do his best to get promoted or you may get one that is at the bottom of the pecking order because that is where he belongs. It is always a **** shoot.

I always check my oil level before leaving the parking lot of my local Ford dealer after they change my oil. I pay them to change it because it is a pain in the butt to get at the filter on my truck while laying on the ground. I also check for drips on the ground and oil level again about 20 miles down the road.

It's not always that they're necessarily stupid, they're likely being pressured by their supervisors who are being pressured by their superiors and on up the food chain to produce, produce, produce. It's a numbers racket, the kid under their draining your oil pan is being told he has x amount of minutes to get the job done, otherwise he's out the door.

I hate working on cars, tractors and other greasy things. But, I do all the work on any of mine that need anything for just this reason.
At times I have hired a tradesman to do things, I always tell them to do the job as if they were doing for themselves, and if this involves extra cost, tell me because I will probably want to buy it. So, then after the job is long done and I have to go and repair it again, I still find out that this guy cheaped on a part and that is why it needs attention -
AGAIN!!

Chevy dealer put 8 quarts oil in my silverado where it is supposed to have only 6. It took me a couple months to realize it. Didn't think I needed check dipstick myself. Live and learn. Hey they are selling oil after all!
