Another use for the motorhome

Yesterday I wanted to head to a local park for the day that is about an hour and a half away. Told the family if we all went I would take the motor home as it was suppose to be iffy weather and would be nice to have a place to warm up if needed. As it got closer to leave the weather cleared up and I said we would just take the van to which my son objected so we took the motor home.

Was a nice drive down, got to the park and the first stop was to use the washroom. Only problem was that with it being the off season only two vault toilets are open and both of those were in the middle of being rebuilt. A hundred or so people in the park and half of them were looking for a toilet that was open with no success.

Well with the RV we had our own bathroom with and we were really glad we did. The nearest bathroom was 35 minutes away - in this park there is no place to go that is not in the open so even behind a bush is not an option. I had tossed some RV antifreeze in a month ago in case we needed to use the toilet so flushing was not a problem.

Sure it may have cost a little more on gas but having all the benefits of home with was REALLY worth it!!!

I have been fortunate to have two motorhomes to choose from the first was my 42 foot Foretravel and I could live in that and did for months at a time. I also made the decision to get a smaller class C and bought a Born Free built for two at 22 feet and loved it enough that I traded I too on a 24 foot rear bath. It was my platform to just get away and visit family or go on photo trips. I believe ught it instead of another car and loved it. Used it at the grands soccer matches and just to set up early and take puctures of sunrises on the skyline drive. Liked it and used it enough that I decided to sell the bus and the 24 foot and go with a 29 foot on a dodge 5500 with fourwheel drive and solar and a bit bigger tanks. I will use it for shooting platform and grands sporting events and day trips as well as longer. I am sold on the comforts of these units and can't wait till mine is built.

Earthquake shelter: We have often gone out to the motorhome to sit out the after-shocks and glad we have it in the event of prolonged power outages, house plumbing problems, and when our kitchen over-the-range microwave poops out. It's also a good temporary place to hide surprise presents.

We lived in our Tioga 26 Q in driveway with two dogs, for many months during our major home renovation DW's simultaneous cancer treatments and recovery. Don't know how we could have done without it. Got so we almost couldn't stand to be in it, don't know how full timers don't go stir crazy.

Having the RV and being able to set up the night before makes doing hamfests and antique radio shows a lot easier when you can set things up the night before and be right there. The rush usually starts around 6 AM. Being one of the only ones set up already when it opens and having lights is also a plus.

We actually lived in our MH for 6 weeks while our condo was being built, because our house sold so fast we need a place to live. I had a 30 AMP RV hook up, cable TV connection, all within inches of the other, and city water. We were so comfortable in our MH that we wouldn't have minded living in it full time. And I didn't have to drive to work, because as soon as I stepped out of our RV, I was already there. Bags.

We just took ours to my Mother about 3 hours away. Went for the weekend and she doesn't have room for all of us to stay. And our dog gets to go too!

We then head out early yesterday to do some sightseeing along the coast before heading home.

It gets driven it down to the beach a lot to enjoy the day use also.

One more: our C doubled as a work platform for changing out lights on the 16' service bays ceilings at work.....LOL!!

A Class C can be really useful when you have smaller kids. We've used ours to hang out in at the soccer fields between games, brought it to the beach just to have warm showers after playing in the sand, and used it for one kid to stay in and do homework while the others are at an activity.

We've used it on day trips just to have our own fridge, kitchen, and bathroom anytime we want it.

We show up really early in the morning for big events (like airshows or even trips to the zoo). We park close to the gate and use it all day to nap or rest as needed.

It's also useful for visiting family during the holidays. It keeps them from having to find a place of everyone to sleep and gives you a way to get some personal space when you need it.

You think exactly as I do. In fact, instead of buying a second car, I can buy a small Class C, about 21 feet. Can then be used both for traveling and for use when my wife is out with the SUV. A little extra gasoline is not going to bankrupt us.

Oh yeah - I forgot: our "C" was mandatory at the drag races 🙂 (Ed races in the Street Class) It's always hotter at the track; so having the A/C, convenient potty, fridge, running water, and the shade of the awning to sit under - all of those were truly a blessing!! The only "problem" - at the major events, the exhaust from the Jet Dragsters, really smears up the windshield....LOL!

Used the moho for many non camping duties. Two that come to mind as especially valuable. Long road trip (NJ to MA and back) during Thanksgiving for my elderly Mother. Much easier to be able to stay in the vehicle instead of going in and out for food and bathroom breaks. Well worth the extra cost of gas... Pit vehicle for Autocross (Timed sports car racing at airfield.) had electricity from the genny to run the air compressor for air tools/tire changing... and the rest of the conviencies. Really makes for a wonderful experience)
