Another use for the motorhome

Yesterday I wanted to head to a local park for the day that is about an hour and a half away. Told the family if we all went I would take the motor home as it was suppose to be iffy weather and would be nice to have a place to warm up if needed. As it got closer to leave the weather cleared up and I said we would just take the van to which my son objected so we took the motor home.

Was a nice drive down, got to the park and the first stop was to use the washroom. Only problem was that with it being the off season only two vault toilets are open and both of those were in the middle of being rebuilt. A hundred or so people in the park and half of them were looking for a toilet that was open with no success.

Well with the RV we had our own bathroom with and we were really glad we did. The nearest bathroom was 35 minutes away - in this park there is no place to go that is not in the open so even behind a bush is not an option. I had tossed some RV antifreeze in a month ago in case we needed to use the toilet so flushing was not a problem.

Sure it may have cost a little more on gas but having all the benefits of home with was REALLY worth it!!!

We have ours stocked and always ready. Just add fresh food. We even keep clothes and jackets, boots, spare sneakers, etc. in it. It has it's own bedding, kitchen and bathroom stuff, etc. Everything stays in it. Even have a spare laptop for it. In the winter I have a couple of bins of things we bring in we don't want to freeze. If we had to leave in a hurry just toss the bins back in, unplug it and go. We don't have many natural disasters around here but there are three Nuke plants within 50 miles. Ya never know.

Like you I have bins ready in the off season (6 months of the year 😞 ), as well as a large bottle of water from a water cooler with a pump if I need it and I make sure that the propane and gas tank are full and the batteries are charged. The worst thing between when I sold my TCer and bought the Class C was not having my bug out vehicle.

So many things that can come up and I would rather be fleeing with my RV than in a car or SUV. Last year with the Fort McMurray wildfire my brother had people come to his RV resort after they had to leave town and all they had to do was pull in, plug in and they were good. May not be ideal but sure better than not having a place for yourself.

Yup! My grandkids LOVED to take the Class C to the park - I think the ride was as much fun as the park? At least it offered clean restrooms, a place to wash up; and a place for the littlest ones to nap while the bigger kids romped

Many, many years ago I was working on a construction product next to a jr. high school. I was amazed at the number of kids that were being dropped of to school in small mhs.

Used the moho for many non camping duties. Two that come to mind as especially valuable. Long road trip (NJ to MA and back) during Thanksgiving for my elderly Mother. Much easier to be able to stay in the vehicle instead of going in and out for food and bathroom breaks. Well worth the extra cost of gas... Pit vehicle for Autocross (Timed sports car racing at airfield.) had electricity from the genny to run the air compressor for air tools/tire changing... and the rest of the conviencies. Really makes for a wonderful experience)

Hopefully a unique use for the class c? late last year, was coming home from work, water pump on the car seized up and broke the timing belt. Anyways interference engine, trashed all the valves, etc. While deciding on what to do with the car (needed new engine) was at a photoshoot that weekend, starter on the van crapped out. Had to have it towed to repair dealer who wasn't open at the time. It's time to go to work... wait, how am I going to get there? car broke, van broke, I know lets use the class c as a commuter vehicle. All 8' wide 26' long parking lot hog. Locked the bike onto the rack, and parked in a vacant lot across the street from the site, then rode into work from there. Worked, as it wasn't raining, and only had to do it a couple of days. Wouldn't recommend as a permanent solution, 8mpg isn't very economical. Not sure the vacant lot was legal either.

I have also used the camper for when people are sick in the house. I have a low immune system and cannot be around sick people so better for me to remove myself from them.

The DW slept in our Class C's corner bed most of the time during the last six months when it was in our back yard not being used for camping. She needs "just the right mattress" due to her bad back and we couldn't afford a new mattress for her in our home's bedroom. For some reason, the stock mattress that Winnebago installed in our RVs corner bed has been superb for her! :h

Where were you able to find an open dump station in February in S. Alberta?

Lots open for the past week as we have no snow since the last Chinook moved in. That may change tonight as the forecast is for snow for the next few days. I have 3 within a few kilometers that are easily accessible.

We take our MH to the local park and the beach throughout the year. There is a beach at the local park and we setup camp right next to the beach there. We spend the day, swim in the lake, fish, etc., and then we can shower off before going home. We do the same thing at the beach. Jekyll Island, GA has several large parking lots along the beach. We setup camp in one of the parking lots and spend the day. Jekyll Island is about 20 minutes from home. We used to do it often until they change the price of a pass for oversized vehicles - was $45 for the year now they want $90/year.

It really is nice having all the comforts of home where-ever we are. We've gone to the kids ball games with the motorhome. We even camped out over night at one of their tournaments. We asked a local Police Officer who was there and he said it was fine. They locked us in for the night.

Motor homes are usable for a number of non-camping or touring activities. We have used ours as support vehicle for sporting and hobby events, home base at theme parks and airshows, day trips to city parks, or as overnight apartments for visitors, or as a place to hang out and read or nap.

I keep our class B ready to roll. I can be on the road in 20 minutes top...could probably pull it off in less than 5 if I didn't care about filling up the walkway in the van.

Thinking about maybe taking it to some of my nephew's soccer matches this year - he lost his Dad in December and he used to always do out of the box things for the kid. Maybe having an aunt show up with a camper would help ease the pain!

Dang tooting it would!
