Some on West Coast might want to know, that on I80, about 2 hr from San Francisco snow can happen in June and can happen in August.
Few years ago CHP made a law requiring truckers carrying chains on this route year around.
I think we should separate from deliberately driving into snow from the risk that nice roads can get sudden snow.
I've been active skier for years doing 10-11 single day trips a season.
Only about once a season I did not have black top on 9000' summits.
So my understanding is that OP is hoping for black top all the way to ski resort and only is checking option in case of sudden weather change.
I have no problem with the idea.
