Anyone have this problem? (long post)

Hello
Wondering if anyone can help us. A little background.
Fulltiming since 2006....first 4 years with a 37ft 5th wheel\f350 truck...then traded for a 35ft Winnebago class A. We have had work done on it..including the transmission rebuilt.
On our way between Florida and Toronto we had a nightmare trip. The rv temp was fine but when we slowed down for traffic or stopped for lights etc and then tried to speed up again, rv would not change gear...even when pushed to 55mph....usually changes at around 50mph.
Only by pulling over, shutting down and waiting for over 30 minuites could we continue. This happened repeatedly for 1400 miles. To make the nightmare worse, our emergency brake would not hold. So I had to get out on highway shoulder and put chocks under wheels. Terrifying and very dangerous as traffic and trucks sped by us!
When we arrived at our destination, even though the last leg was only a half hour drive in cool weather, the rv would not go into reverse until we waited over an hour. Then no problem.
We have been told, when we had the brakes done, that the autopark was fine.
We have to leave here for a 1200 mile trip and are getting more stressed as the time gets closer.
Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem\problems?
Thank you.

Well, we leave in a week for Niagara Falls Canada. Dreading this no overdrive problem. We have drained a little trans fluid. Would be great if that was the problem. Will take longer, but thinking I10 to I65 would be less stressful if we have to stop at side of road rather than I75. Thanks to all who responded. Will update if we solve this.

Like others have said over or under fill can cause the problem then there is a host of things inside that could be the problem.

You can check the fluid if it's OK then you will have to take it to a transmission shop.

A code reader to access the transmission that year is fairly expensive, the kind a dealer or transmission shop has. It seems the only way is to spend some money and get a diagnoses of what the problem may be. As others have said, it may be a solenoid problem or an internal leak causing the problem. You may have to have some pressure testing done to isolate the problem(s).
Good luck.

Did you have a "shift kit" put in it when rebuilt? Some kits do not get along with GM transmissions well and can cause these systems. A dealer or a real transmission shop should be able to read any codes/information about the trans from the ECU. Let us know what you find the problem is.

A shift kit was not installed as far as we know. Was not on the bill and since the mechanic has died and shop closed we cannot confirm.
We were hoping to get some "experts" on here to give us a little knowledge before picking a repair facility. Then, at least we may be able understand what they are telling us and perhaps tell if they are being truly truthful.

You had a tranny rebuilt. How long ago? Should they be fixin' this?

We had app in 3 days but the owner died and the shop never reopened. 😞
At that point it was just the reverse when warm that didn't work.

Wow! Tough one. Sorry.

First thing is to check the fluid level. To much fluid will cause problems not allowing fluid to drain back down properly. To little of fluid will cause aeration of the fluid. Possibly the filter has become lose or unhooked and sucking air. If electronic transmission could have a bad solenoid.

We know the Trans fluid is way over filled. Noticed that when checking levels before leaving. Must have been done when service done as we never added any.

Ditto on taking it to a Chevy Dealer.
Call your local dealership and ask where their truck location is. Every town that has a Chevy Dealership will also have a truck dealer service department at another location in the same town. And yes they work on RV's and their rates are far less than an RV dealership.

I am not sure on your make and model but on many the emergency brake is PART of the transmission. AND it also holds a large portion of the trans fluid.

Been there done that. I had to have mine replaced at midnight at a semi truck service center. Because the service department kid at the last place I had it serviced drove it with the emergency brake on and lunched it. You loose fluid from the emergency brake component and you are loosing fluid to the trans.

We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned,
so as to have the life that is waiting for us.

There are 24 hours in every day - it all depends on how you choose to use them.
