Banging noise

When hooked to electricity, I've begun hearing a banging noise from the distribution center. It stops if I turn on lights that work off the battery or while the furnace is running. Asked about it when the rig was in for service, but was dismissed as unimportant. Any ideas about what's causing this? And should I be concerned?
  • I have heard electrical transfer switches that hum from time to time. Sometimes this could be fairly loud but I would not describe the noise as banging.
  • Your service center shrugged you of and should not have. Any strange noises should be investigated.
Do you have an energy management system? The noise you hear could be relays in it dropping or picking up.
What type of electric service does the rig have 30 or 50 amp? Does it happen all the time or just connected to one type of service or another?
  • Sounds like the screw lugs for the wires in the transfer switch and breaker panel are not tight.

yep, I replaced one that did this very thing.

  • I appreciate all of your thoughts. They give me ideas to pursue with my service center.

In case it helps, my rig is 30 amp, and the breaker panel is in a different area of the coach. This noise does sound similar to a something snapping on and off, but it comes from a panel that contains numerous fuses not breakers. The noise is intermittent. Could it have anything to do with a park's voltage?
