Battery Problems

Ever since having a recall completed that basically by-passed the battery control centre we have had issues with a chassis battery going dead after sitting unused for a few days.

Decided to replace the chassis battery before a recent road trip. I screwed up and forgot to reconnect the cable to the alternator. My wife and daughter headed away ahead of me) but needless to say the MH died since the alternator was not charging the battery (yes I was in deep $&@? over that one). Once that was sorted we have noticed the following;

1. Fridge, lights, pump etc...do not work on house battery
2. Tow/haul button on end of shifter does not work

I am not convinced that the chassis battery screw up and the house battery issue are connected but maybe they are.

Any thoughts on the cause of the house battery issues and what I should check?

    I would check the fuses. It is very common to draw too much current with a low battery voltage. I'm not sure I understand the chassis battery would ever be routed through the "battery control center" not that I have heard of that term. There is a systems panel control panel that usually has a battery meter in it. The only time the "chassis" and the "house" batteries are connected is when the engine is started. Another potential issue is depending on how you disconnected the alternator if you didn't tape up the end it could have had a short to ground which would have created additional problems.

    Battery control centre - the switch inside the door to switch off the engine or house battery. Thor had us do a recall, that no longer works.

    Bypassing the BCC

    BCC on modern Thor units should be same as mine functionally (2005 Damon, which is a Thor)

    Engine running it connects CHASSIS to HOUSE.. If the HOUSE batteries are CONNECTED then they charge

    Plugged into shore power it connects HOUSE to ENGINE,, IF the house batteris are connected then they charge.

    In both cases if the house batteries are in STORE mode, they do not charge.

    Unplugged and parked
    If the house batteries are connected then 12 volt stuff works

    IF they are not, then it does not.

    House and chassis batteries are ISOLATED so if you run the house down to 3 volts you can still fire up the big engine and go. (I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU TRY THIS but.. Well....... This is a do not do as I did situtation).
