Our two dogs are both are well train to the lease and voice.one is a 11 lb Rat Terrier, and the other is a 90lb German Shepard. the Terrier is a great traveler loves to set on the dash and watch the world go by until the sun makes it too hot.
The Shepard on the other had is a terrible traveler, so she stays home most of the time. She gets car sick, will not go anywhere but her spot here at home, wants to hide under my feet or crawl around and behind the couch,or curl up in her crate. if she is with us and we go outside the NH she hides, almost have to drag her outside. Thank God for the neighbors boys who she loves and take care of her when we are away.
We tried taking the cat once, what a nightmare that was never again.
Had a Shepherd several years ago that had similar problems. She loved to go with us, but would drool like crazy in the truck. We drugged her and it just made groggy. It didn't stop the drooling and never made her relax. Once we got to the campground she wouldn't poop for a couple of days because she wanted to go to her spot at home. She loved to take hikes with us and was a great dog, just not cutout for travel. People were intimidated by her breed and one guy refused to let me register after he noticed her in the truck.
I've got another 100 lb Shepherd now. He's so high strung and full of energy that he would drive us crazy if he couldn't get out and run.
