Bunkhouse class A questions

I'm still digging around trying to decide what kind of layout i want.

For those of you with Bunkhouses, are any of the bunks even remotely suitable for an average sized adult to sleep in?

Let me know which model you have and if an adult could sleep in the bunks.

Thanks!
  • I am 6'3 and I would not be able to sleep in them. If you are under 6' and 200 lbs, they would be fine.
  • We are on our third Bunkhouse RV. We had an Itasca Sunstar and an Itasca Sunova. We now have a Tiffin Allegro RED. They all would fit an 'Average Size Adult' but not me. If you are 5-8 or so and 160 or so, OK. Our daughter fits fine at about 5-9/125. The space makes great storage, but take care about over loading.

The Itascas had simple curtains, one on each level, the Tiffin had doors, operative work HAD. I removed them and stored them. Too hot and also difficult to navigate past when open. I installed a curtain rod and bought a pair of drapes.
  • Our 2007 still works for our kids. My youngest 20 still fits and he's 5'9 or 10, oldest is like me and gets claustrophobic so he uses the couch. But his girlfriend who camps with us a lot is fine on the bunk, both are 23.
  • Check out the Forest River Berkshire. Our bunks were over six feet and we didn't have an issue with weight on the top bunk.
  • Was just as comfortable in ours as when I was underway on CG ships. Acceptable yes..for short term use..after a week or so I would probably grow tired of it.
  • We have had our Newmar for over 8 yrs now and it has served us well. The kids are now 17 and 15. Our 17 yr old daughter is 5'11" and our son is 5'9. They don't like to sleep in them anymore, too cramped. They would rather pull out the couch and drop the dinette.
  • Most of them, the beds are very close in length to the same as the length of a typical RV mattress (around 72"). Length isn't the issue with adults sleeping in these bunks, though, the issue is headroom, and how thin the mattresses usually are. And, of course, you add any to the mattress with a pad or whatever, and you're taking away from the headroom.

Anyway, its doable with most I think, but the bigger, heavier the adult, the more the thin mattress may be an issue and result in sore backs the next morning.
  • I have a bunkhouse and the beds are 72 inches long, but according to Newmar the upper bunk has a weight limit of 150 lbs. We bought the bunkhouse for a great nephew to be able to come with us along with his mom who weights less than 100lbs. When they are not along, they make a great place for animal cages, and extra storage.

If you go with a bunk house model, check carefully for where you will but the peoples stuff.
  • Yes. Ours are close to 6ft long. They are a little skinny and not much headroom on the top. Also, I added a layer of memory foam so it would be a bit more comfortable. And everything is usable with the slides in.
