cabinet falling!

We have a 2008 Trailite by RVision and the cabinet over the sofa has collapsed. The back is still attached but the screws holding it to the ceiling are all pulled loose. We have it braced temporarily but are wondering about suggestions for repairing. WE will probably drill new holes and use slightly wider (not longer screws) along with Liquid Nails. I was thinking as an extra precaution to use brackets on each side? But I'm concerned about what size screws to use. Perhaps just put wood blocks under on each side so it would be less visually distracting?

BTW - The sofa is located in one of the slides so we have to be very careful about the length of screws.
  • While you are at it, it may be an idea to reinforce the other cabinets, too!
  • Might be good to investigate the structure (or lack thereof) that the screws are going into. Possibly you would be able to reinforce it with e.g. some aluminum plate or extrusions...or possibly make an unwelcome discovery that there is water or other damage there that needs repair.

A somewhat larger diameter screw, by itself, isn't going to have vastly more holding power if it's going into the same luan that the original screws pulled out. It would probably have a little more, but not a lot. Hopefully the screws are actually attaching to some semi-substantial framework.
  • Another thing to consider is packing the hole with Kleenex, running the screw in, then taking out and then apply crazy glue for wood. This will size the hole and be stronger than the original.
  • I think I had too much stuff in it. I have rearranged the cabinet contents and put the heavier stuff under the sink.

For the repair we are going to drill new holes and use larger screws then use the Liquid Nails to reinforce. Plus underneath on each side we are putting wood supports running the depth of the cabinets.
