Just to be very clear. If you have a 4x4 vehicle with a two speed transfer case with a neutral position vs an all wheel drive vehicle with a single speed transfer case you can put the transfer case into neutral. This completely disconnects the wheels from the transmission. In most cases this will allow the vehicle to be flat towed. The transfer case is in neutral and the automate transmission in park. Keep in mind if the vehicle has a steering lock then the vehicle may need to have the ignition in a position that unlocks the steering. You don't need lube pumps or driveline disconnects etc.
