charging problem

even when I have the coach turned off , I still get a drain on my system so about every 7-10 days my coach batteries are dead, I fire up the genny and put a good charge on them , put brand new interstate battery in about 9 months ago. Tonight I fired up the genny and you can here the switch try to kick in the power but it doesn't charge and I have no power on battery or genny? any suggestions on where to start first.
  • yes it is in storage,Planned on using it so I didn't winterize it yet and it is in my front yard, so every week or so I would run the genny to top off the battery, I will have shore power hooked up soon so no worries in the future.if storing for a long time I would unhook the batteries and or keep a trickle charger on them
  • This RV is in storage..yes..no
If you are in the RV, you should run the generator every day..At least for the heavy loads MW, space heater, curling iron, hair dryer
Do not wait until the batteries are dead..you are killing them
Do not discharge then that low
  • If you didn't have shore power what were you running on? Inverter? that would pull down batteries very quickly.
  • no not all electric,i have 4 6volt for coach and 2 12 volt for the motor. I just had too much stuff trying to come on at the same time, I will be hooked to shore power soon then hopefully I wont have to worry about keeping the battery charged every 10 days
  • Are you all electric? Are you running space heaters off of inverters? Holy stuff Batman.
  • problem resolved, I do have a parasitic drain on house side, engine will start no problem, my issue was when we shut down we had too much stuff plugged into the house, space heater , curling iron and vacuum recharger. I was not on shore power , but I got it charging and everything working again... with the pull on the system it wouldn't ever switch or charge with the battery dead nothing else worked it that makes sense but think you all for the help...
  • coach ? batteries

please clarify... do you mean engine /chassis or do you mean the house side

i usually assume coach means house, but that does not mean, that is what you are saying

chassis batteries will have drain from all the electronics, trasmission, radio, engine cpu etc..

house will have parasitic drains from control boards unless batteries are disconnected
even then the disconnect switch will not disconnect some circuits some inverters are hard wired and must be turned OFF at the inverter, some LP alarms and such safeties are hard wired and can only be "turned off" by disconnecting the battery cables

    Do you have shore power?

  • Make and model of chassis and make and model of rig would help.
Your chassis battery has many parasitic loads connected that will drain the battery. Some it is good to put small charger on it, others you can disconnect chassis battery without affecting the computer.
Are you talking the transfer switch that is clicking and will not operate? The genset should pick up transfer switch without any issues.
