China made LED light Strip problems.

I've installed a couple of LED light strips, one down each bottom side of my motor home. I purchased them online for around $25, they flash, change colors, dim etc etc. I've had nothing but problems, that I've narrowed down to a view things. one being voltage drop, which makes the lights act erratic, ie, different color then selected, only 1/2 the lights come on, etc etc. I've increased the wire gauge size, soldiered all connections, and it works about 95% correctly. I've researched online, and it appears there's lots of problems with these so called cheap China made LED light strips. The light strips themselves are thin, cheap components that burn out, voltage drop among other things. I haven't talked to any experts yet, but have read and seen videos that compare the China made ones with domestic strips. The quality of the domestic is superior...........the price also goes up.......but I guess you get what you pay for.
I'm curious, has anyone else run into problems with their mult function, multi colored light strips? Thanks
Brian
  • i'm using the transformers........and I also I have one light out of the 4 available. Prior to soldiering instead of using the supplied connectors only half the green lights would come on. Now I have green white and blue, but no red on one string.
  • Ditto. I opted to install mine with the included 110 to 12v converter to maximize stable 12v current. On my sealed strip I have 3 sections of 4 LEDs that have at least one color out.

  • LEDs like a steady 12V current, and do not like anything greater than that. Since coach DC system can put out as much as 14 volts, you may need a step down converter like THIS
  • Check the power transformer to make sure that the voltage is not changing.
  • Made in China. Same company that made the baby formula and the dog food, eh?
  • Yes, and Yes, they haven't even been near water yet, but everything is sealed.
  • Did you cut the strips to fit? If yes, did you seal the open ends so no water can get in?
  • I have installed 3 separate strips that operate independently of each other. So far I haven't had any problems.
