Class A long term parking question

Hello all, I'm new to the forums, have read some great threads on here in the past and hopefully I can get some solid answers.

I have a 1986 36ft Coachman Royale at 18k gvw probably leaning more towards 20k loaded up currently. I'm about to start a Workamping season for the summer for 8 months. My Coachman as no leveling system and I've only used blocks under wheels int he past as it wasn't long term.

My question is,how can setup and stabilize my motorhome for an 8 month park? Bottle jacks, scissor jacks? I know not to take wheels off the ground and I know I only need to lift the frame up about an inch or two to get it stabilized, but what's best for that length of time?

Thanks in advance, sorry if it's a bit lengthy
  • Thanks a lot for all the feedback! I'll try using scissor jacks. I have 1 bottle Jack and a bunch of scissor jacks lying around. I'll test em out and let you all know what worked best for me. Thanks again

I would do this, but go one step further to use a bottle jack to lift slightly above the level height, place the jackstand and then release the bottle jack to put the weight on the stands.

Then why not just use a scissor jack and delete one unneeded step?

  • If all you want is leveling (and not also stabilizing the suspension somewhat for less bounce), I see no reason why blocks under the wheels would be bad for long-term use. Partly depending on the soil conditions, pressure treated wood could well be a good idea where it's in contact with the dirt.

  • Although I like bottle jacks for a lot of things scissor jacks would be better for long term because a bottle jack can leak over time.
  • In the park where we are I saw an older motorhome that had some wood blocks on the ground - with scissor jacks sitting on the wood blocks.
