- carp65ExplorerWe run our generator and turn both A/C's on, close back vents and all cool air
comes up front. Have also closed some of the front vents, leaving only the
two directly over the driver and passenger seat--lots of comfortable, cool air. - catsgaloreExplorerThank you, all the posts were very helpful.
- ncrowleyExplorer IIMy Newmar is insulated pretty well so the dash does a good job 95% of the time. If we get uncomfortable, I run the generator and run the air conditioner in the front of the coach.
- olfarmerExplorer IIOur dash AC does fine 90% of the time, if it can't keep up I run the genny and the roof air.

Thank you, I was talking about the interior of the motor home. We do have a generator. I was a little uneasy about running the generator while driving.
Use that generator, it loves to be worked! I traveled from my home in SoCal to the east coast and back and ran the AC the entire time on either generator or shore power. The less you use your generator the more problems you may encounter. Just make sure you service the generator as required. - PortWentworthSaExplorerWe run our Gennie and the Roof A/C when traveling all the time. It keeps the entire coach nice and cool. When super hot we use the dash air along with the roof air.
- wa8yxmExplorer IIIHeading west: Travel only in AM (else the sun in the windhsield will kill you) or at night.
Run Generator and every air conditioner you have, Dash, Roof 1 and 2 or basement.
Best you can do.. Cockpit will get very hot once the sun crosses over to in front of you. - GjacExplorer IIII think you will find in the higher elevations out west it will be a lot cooler. In 10 years I have only used the roof A/Cs once in 104 temps in the east with high humidity the dash air is fine because it blows directly on you for 80-90 degree temps.
- J-RoosterExplorerWelcome to RV.Net! Great question! I run our genset and turn on the air when it gets to 90* I have a heat pump in my coach (basement air) and remember to keep your fuel tank at 1/2 or above most gensets will turn off automatically when you get to 1/4 of a tank or lower. Have a nice trip visiting the West!
- PeralkoExplorerBy all means run the generator and your roof AC. We did it all the time in our gasser, and still do in our current coach. My wife likes it real cold, so I end up freezing while it's 115 F. outside!
