Class C pricing

Shopping for new class C. What discount can I receive on
new RV. I had a 5th wheel, which I received 25% of list?
Does this apply to Class C?
  • MSRP is a very creative, almost fictional, number on RVs. If it is a brand sold by rvdirect.com, go there and get a quote. You will be able to find other dealers who will match that price. When we did that, the discount from MSRP was 37% on our Class C.
  • It depends on the local market and the dealer. Something between 20 and 30% below MSRP is often negotiable, for brands sold through dealers.

For direct sales from a factory, the price is sometimes negotiable for what might be in stock, but not always negotiable for built to order, but when there are no dealers MSRP doesn't really have a meaning.

Look at prices offered by discount outlets like RV Direct, use that as a bargaining goal with working with dealers selling the same thing.
  • It really depends on the unit and the dealer. Some places mark up a lot more, some places cut the price. Like mentioned above shop around - price out similar units.

One thing to understand is if you are on the opposite side of the country from the manufacturer then you may end up paying more for the shipping to you, there is nothing that can be done about that.
  • Yes. I always say to research very hard on the prices that all dealers around the country are advertising for the model you want. Online, newspapers, magazines etc. You will find at least one that is actually advertising at that kind of discount. Then you will have the courage of your conviction when you go to the dealer you want to buy from.
And beware, after you get your low price they will try to get back some of their profit by selling you an optional warrantee package. Don't do it. The reason it is very lucrative for them is because very few end up using it.
