Class C Recommendations

Howdy everyone! We have been RV-less for too long. Our last coach was a 2011 30-ft Newmar Class A that we loved and sold a couple of years ago. We miss being on the road and would like to start looking for a late model Class C 25-28 feet. Would appreciate some input as to what brands are currently considered top end and which to stay away from.
  • Coming from a
    Newmar chassis to a class C E350/450 series ? I would rent one for a week and see how it goes. You might find the ride very different.
    You might also find the GM chassis on the C to ride better.
    The passenger will have more foot room and from what many owners have said, the GM handles a bit better without doing modifications and special alignments.

    My Ford E450 2018 Forest River Sunseeker has been a great 'coach' as far as it holding up but that's a pre-covid class C .
    I have no idea how they are coming off the assembly line post covid.

    I did spend a lot on Ford upgrades to improve the handling. Shocks, HD sway bars, HD steering stabilizer, rear track bar, positive caster alignment and fiddling with tire pressure.
    On a calm day all is fine. If it gets windy with crosswinds and bow waves from semi trucks bounce me around on interstates. That's why i suggest, rent one to get a better hands-on idea.

    Which ever one you end up buying, I would add Air Tabs. They improve noise, and handling.
  • Think really long and hard about whether you want to buy a rig that uses diesel or gasoline. I have owned gas rigs for years and at a weak moment and getting poor biased opinion from a friend, bought my first diesel rig that is on a Mercedes Sprinter chassis. So far, it's been an ongoing challenge to keep and justify driving this vehicle. You will get a lot of varying opinions so be prepared.
  • Not knowing how you envision using your class C. Or if you are open to used units. It is hard to make suggestions. I know nothing about new ones. But what I have in my sig below is my second class C and the best I have had. The Chevy 4500 is hands down the most fun to drive with stock suspension. The house is well made and has little detains like all the holes going through the floor are factory sealed. The only thing I miss is dual pane windows.

    Never purchased a high end class C. But Bigfoot & Coach House come to mind.
  • As a former Newmar owner, you may have some experience with diesel coaches. Based on your experience, don't fear any of the MB Sprinter based C class motorhomes. I have a Winnebago Navion, sitting on the 2017 NCV3 Sprinter chassis, and it's been pretty flawless to date. I was hesitant to go diesel after a couple of gas adventures, but soon realized I should have done it sooner. The power and fuel economy, being two of the pros, as I learned about diesel engines over the last 5 years. They have cons, but not enough to make me go back, with one exception. The Winnebago EKKO, is a 4 season class C motorhome that has "off grid" technology incorporated into it's coach and chassis systems. Too bad they're so **** expensive, or I might have one. They have the Ford V6 Eco-Boost gas engine, but the power and torque specs are "diesel" in nature. And, they're AWD which would be nice in certain road conditions.
