cruise control doesnt work

2002 damon daybreak ford v 10 what switch on brake controls cruise does anybody know.....since our trip I now know it works when first using cruise after driving for hour or so it will not come on until I use the next day .... all most like heat from engine next to my right leg makes switch to warm to work is this possible......
  • Good answers above, but there is more. All cruse controls have 2 means of disengagement. The stop light switch on your MH is the primary disengagement and the pressure switch on the master cylinder is the secondary disengagement. Ford has had some issues with the secondary switch. Look for leaks and make sure the switch is open circuit with no brake pressure.
No vacuum used on your cruse control, all electric.

  • You might have a vacuum leak to the cruise servo. If you unit has a servo unit, check to see if all of the lines are good.
Check the local library for details on your unit, or search the internet for answers. Mine quit working about 5 years ago, and i traced the problem to a bad vacuum leak, repaired and it has worked properly ever since.

The switch on the brake is the same as the one for the brake lights, In fact if the brake lights are working properly... That is not the problem

Cruise control connects to both sides of the switch and looks for 12v across it, If it's present pedal is assumed to be "UP" if there is no voltage across the switch (or very low) pedal is assumed to be depressed.

Things that can cause no voltage and the status of the brake lights

    1: Pedal down (Lights on)
    2: Blown fuse (Lights off)
3: Burned out lamps (All of them) Lights off.

These next two only happen if you drive with headlights on:

4: Feed back from towed vehicle parking lights (Yes I have that problem, working on it, will have fixed by end of month)
5: Feedback from parking light circuit on ANY lamp (had that one too, turned out to be front drivers side lamp socket.. A bit of WD-40 Cleaned it right up)
  • First thing I'd check would be the fuses.

    Does the horn work?
  • If a brake light bulb is burnt out the cruise control on many vehicles will not work. Have you checked them?
  • Usually your brake lighst are what turns off the cruise control so if they are stuck in the on position, no cruise control.
