Cupboard space

We own a Fleetwood Discovery and have been touring more upscale coaches with some of them reaching the $600,000 list price and are astounded by the lack of cupboard space in these upscale coaches. Being we do and like to do most of our own cooking we have a lot of cooking utensils and our Discovery has a lot of space for these utensils. Maybe they figure if you spend a half million on a coach you should have the funds to eat out. Not trying to be smart --s but just saying

Our soft drinks and water are under the bed. A lot of our disposable dining ware, paper towels, plastic storage bags and other kitchen items are stored in the full wall of cupboards in our half bath, adjacent to the kitchen. Our dry products like cereal, crackers and chips are in the cupboards over the sofa.

I think very few coaches are designed for people who love to cook versus those you eat out, cook outside and limit their cooking to less exotic meals.

Right! In our coach, we have a "closet" w/ double doors right across from the refridgerator which was intended for a washer & dryer stack or to be used as a clothes closet. Instead, I screwed a couple full length wire racks to the walls and set a stack of large plastic drawer bins in it for storage of food and kitchen accessories. Essentially, a big pantry. DW loves the extra storage space and, as we all know, when DW is happy, we're all happy!

Our new Discovery has the large spice rack and pantry, and lots of storage. 200 cf inside. (came with W/D and dishwasher)
I've looked at many new expensive coaches (over $400k list) that looked nicer but had no more features or amenities.
With the basement of 200+ cf, 400+ total, we were overweight when weighed. Twice went thru everything, got several hundred lbs. out. Now there is space in every cupboard, cabinet, drawer, and compartment and we can find things now. Most are less than 1/2 full.

I live in a condo and when my wife was alive she always said she had a bigger kitchen in the Motorhome than the condo. That was a 3778 Newmar Mountain Aire.
Move to a small condo and you kitchen in the MH will grow in comparison.

We full-timed 16 years in a 33' 5th wheel and 40' motorhome with ample space for everything and yes, we cooked the majority of meals in the RV.

What we didn't have was a dishwasher, washer and dryer, big screen multiple TVs, fireplace, two bathrooms, and many slides. Those things take up lots of space and that's what they're putting in new RVs. If we bought a RV today, we still wouldn't want any of the 'fluff'.

As with most coaches, we have had to deal with limited cabinet space. My wife loves to cook but she doesn't use every pot and pan for every meal. Since she enjoys picking up fresh ingredients as we travel, she prepares each meal with the pot and pans that she needs for that meal only. The rest of her kitchen items are stored in plastic bins that we put in the basement. Our basement remains pretty close to the rest of the coach so it only takes a minute to get what she needs for today's meal. :B
Storing most of her cooking equipment in the basement also eliminates a lot of rattles as we go down the road.

LOL. We looked at a 15 year old coach that looked immaculate. The owner said they'd cooked on the stove twice. Said they preferred to eat out.

I think you are correct. Those who initially purchase a high dollar coach , for the most part are eating out with friends etc. most of the coaches I looked at used , had ovens and stoves that were untouched. Can't say as I disagree with that plan, if I had the funds to do so ..if do the same My dw cooks but it's not a passion for her or myself. For me it's a chore and I much rather eating out and not dealing with cooking and cleaning up. But that gets s little expensive.

Dennis I suspect that like us you have the DH model dishwasher which of course never works quite as well as DW would like. :B

Yes, I noticed the lack of cupboard space too when we were looking at a Class A. That was one of the main factors for our going with a towable.

The mfgs cater to what works best for their customers. We toured the Marathon factory and when my wife asked about the cupboard space, the tour guide looked at her like she was an alien. That's why the 'dishwasher' only holds two wine glasses....:W.....We too, like to eat in, Debi likes to cook and I like to eat so it works perfectly for us. We opted for more cupboard space over the dishwasher.....Dennis
