We are leaving the Metro Detroit area to go to Florida in our 2005 Winnie Journey diesel. I have never traveled without a full tank of water, winter or summer, but this weather is colder than it was last year. Any thoughts as to whether this is a good idea this time? I plan to run the gas furnace while we travel, stopping for the night in Lexington, KY and near Atlanta.
Also, do you think my 38 gallon propane tank will last until we make it to Florida?
No one will agree with me but you can fill your tanks, turn on the heat and you will be fine. How long will it take you to get S. of the freezing weather? A couple of days? No worries. Fill, shower, flush, drink and live a comfortable life. I suggest having a "weather station" or similar that monitors the temps in the wet bay. You don't want to run the heat when not necessary and you don't want to be surprised that it's too cold down there. I am currently in NJ and it's about 30 outside. The wet bay is 47 with 1 light bulb running. I have a 2nd I can burn if necessary. If I run the interior heat there is almost never a need for supplemental heat down there.
