I do the same thing, smartphone is always up to date and accurate. I found a rubber pad at Best Buy for $4.99 in a gadget table that is just perfect. It has a sticky back like the pads to put on your dash and lay the phone or sunglassses on but it also has a 1" sides to it that has a slot in it for your smartphone to sit into and keep it on its side facing you just like a GPS screen. Nice thing about it is you can move it easily from vehicle to vehicle and the smartphone fits in it with any case you may have on your phone.
