- my996duc1ExplorerI got doom and gloom stories also when I asked about AAA RV. I have not used it yet but when I asked my local SoCal AAA office explained what all was covered. It appears it will work fine for me.
Something to consider when thinking about this....
- AAA RV wouldn't be around if it didn't work. No one would be using it. AAA is a large enough company they are not a fly-by-night trying to scam people.
- A better answer/comparison would be from an actual person who has had and used a couple different options/services.
- What company has a major influence on this forum and do they offer a service and thus the influence might be swayed by such.
I hope my AAA works as described by the local AAA office. If it doesn't then I will be switching to something else.
So far AAA has worked flawlessly, for me, on every level for towing cars, jump starts, lock outs, ect... so I have no reason to doubt them now.

What ever you do, stay north of Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany Counties, cause their agents will fail you down here if you call to have them tow a Class A rig. They will send a little wrecker from this area that is not large enough to tow you and he will take on look at the size of your motorhome and return to his shop and call the dispatch in Buffalo and tell them that he can't tow you. If your lucky, about 4 hours later maybe a large wrecker from Buffalo will show up for the tow.
Thanks for the heads up as I plan on camping in WNY and towards Erie too..hopefully I will never need. :) Maybe I'll even email them proactively to check to see if still an issue. - wny_pat1Explorer

Pardon me, but my son towed contracted to AAA in the southern tier of western NYS and left many motorhomes sitting on the side of the road because the AAA agent just dispatched a little wrecker to tow a way to big motorhome. So much for your "agents"!!! Each AAA area is different and not all have the RV Plus regardless of what that agent tells you! Will your AAA agent tow a motorhome from Alaska to the lower 48??? Coach-Net has!!!
Pardon me, but isn't why we have agents? I would call mine instead of asking a bunch of people who may not even have AAA.
LOL...you are confusing a bad agent with the service provided in the area. I am a Western NY AAA RV Premium member and have been for years. I can confirm they *will* tow a Class A. In my earlier post I even provided one of the tow companies. However, I can confirm that I did have an agent one time attempt to sent the wrong tow truck, but corrected on a follow up call, so I agree there. I have absolutely no plans to take my RV outside the northeast, so I am fine with the coverage here and really don't care now if they will tow it to Hawaii :W If I was retired and traveling across the US and had no other vehicles, I may look at the other offerings.
No classic car coverage and no towing to my house (forget which ones-Coach Net or Good Sam) were deal killers as I was looking at other options before I renewed AAA. I liked the unlimited tow option, but after thinking about it, I don't recall any year where I needed more than two tows.
Bottom line, depending what you need, either of the three services may work for you, so need to compare all options.
Oh, I flew to Alaska and rented a RV with my family a few yrs ago..no need for coverage :) - peaches_creamExplorerDo a search and you will see, (no one) has ever had a problem with GS or CN. They are the best. :S
Purchase emergency road service from your Insurance Carrier, put the extra in your pocket, and you will be much better off. - Chaz98Explorer

I pay $90 per year through FMCA for Coach Net by prepaying for 3 years.
Good info. I'm FMCA also, just recently, and glad to know of that benefit. Of course I can get the same multi year discount with AAA and even more of a discount if I choose "auto-renewal" :C, but will watch threads like this in IRV2, and others, and didn't want to commit to multi-year in case I change my mind next May. - usmohls2ExplorerI had AAA premium & never had a problem. When you make the call, explain what you are driving or towing & the type of tow rig you need. I used them one time. Fuel pump went out on my truck in NM. They sent out two small trucks. One grabbed the truck, the other the 5er. 68 miles later we were ay the dealer. No cost to me. Very pleased!
- The_TexanExplorerI was mistaken, they have even diluted the AAA more, by increasing the number of individual companies to 69 individual clubs.
- Executive45Explorer IIILots of cranky sorts on here, for sure!...
The OP asked a fair question. Unfortunately, real life experiences with AAA vary extensively which is why we see many different stories. Similar instances with different results. It shouldn't be this way. If we go to McDonalds, the expectation is that a hamburger in Los Angeles will taste the same as one in Topeka. AAA coverage may vary across State lines or in the case of California, vary from NorCal to SoCal. This can be very frustrating. I have not heard this same thing from CoachNet or GSERS,
My experience with AAA is mixed. They took care of me when my coach was stolen, but IMHO their service is only good for regular "stuff" like jump starts and out of gas "stuff". They added the RV Plus as an aside to get the customers who needed it most...us...that said, they, to me, do not do very well in the communication area. For instance, it's SoCal AAA in Southern California but CSAA in Northern California. They don't talk to each other. Ask me how I know! It became too cumbersome and difficult to deal with them, so they are now in my history book as a company I used to deal with....Dennis - BobGedExplorer

With my first coach I had AAA RV Plus. I broke down in Biggs Junction, OR, and had to be towed 136 miles to Bend, OR, which was the nearest qualified repair facility. AAA only covered the first 100 miles. I had to pay $162.00 (36 miles x 4.50 per mile).
If I had Coach Net then, as I do now, they would have covered the entire tow charge.
Correct, but if you had AAA Premium, to compare apples to apples, AAA would be no charge too.
OP asked about AAA RV Plus, and since Coach Net today costs me less than what AAA RV Plus did back then (I can only assume that Premium would be higher yet), I feel I am definitely comparing apples to apples. Also the comfort of knowing that Coach Net will provide coverage any where I travel in the US without the potential territorial issues with AAA is a big plus. If some one feels more comfortable with AAA, then that's fine. I'm not here to argue.

Not an AAA fanboy here and don't work for them either, just saw some incorrect info in the thread and providing some facts to help others with decision. I agree with the "anywhere in the US" comment too and I agree that there are many variables that would make up the decision. Heck, if you had multiple family members/kids driving, then I'm sure one of these would be better than the other too :)
