Most likely it is not on a slide. A slide mechanism that is sturdy enough to support the generator (approaching 200 pounds and vibrating under use) would not be inexpensive, particularly given how infrequently it would be used.
The fuel pump should be more or less accessible without dropping the generator. You'll have to take out the odds and ends on the left hand side--the starter solenoid and the voltage regulator/control boards. That's all accessible, and probably would all need to be taken out to get access to connections to disconnect before dropping it anyway. The fuel pump, at least on mine, is underneath the circuit modules there.
Dropping it is conceptually straightforward but a good bit of labor. If you end up dropping it, make sure you have adequate clearance underneath the skirting before you start, and (if needed) drive up on some ramps or park over a depression or something along those lines. A floor jack is most useful for dropping/raising the generator if needed, though frankly I'd do most everything I could to avoid needing to do so in the first place.
