Dometic VacuFlush Toilet

My sister just took delivery of a new 2016 Southwind last night. We were looking at it's Dometic toilet that uses the VacuFlush system with a push button on the wall. I'm not familiar with this system and couldn't find any literature on it last night when I got home.

Here's my question....You can push the pedal to flush, but my sister was told you need to turn the switch on, mounted on the wall, every time you use the bathroom and wait for it to go from red to green. I'm guessing you can just leave it on.

When you do flush, there is this noise, I'm guessing a pump building pressure that turns the light green. The pump sounds like it makes 6-7 pumps before it's ready. The noise it makes is VERY loud and appears to be under the bedroom. It's so loud, that I think it would wake you up if you were sleeping.

Soooooo......what is making this noise and has someone found a way to make it quieter. I'll soon be helping my BIL do a bunch of new equipment add ons and helping them personalize their new motor home.

"tooltime"....It's not a macerator toilet. I have two of those in my coach. I finally got to look at the unit the other day while helping my BIL install his SaniCon. It's a big unit. It's mounted just under the bedroom floor. We're going to install some 1" foam insulation on the roof of the compartment where it's located. Just need to quiet it a little.

They do use more water. We only use front toilet when dry camping

It is a macerator toilet. We have one in the rear bath and it works fine. I do flush out the tank probably every 3 times when I empty it to keep sensors clean. When sensors get dirty the red light stays on so I flush out black tank more often.

Just go to any Fleetwood forum and you can read about the problems.

We've had zero problems with it in 7 (almost 😎 years. The advantage is having 2 bathrooms and being able to design with one black tank and not necessarily placed below the bathroom.

There is noise, you can't flush silently, but our is under the kitchen so it doesn't affect sleep in the bedroom, and it's easy access if service is needed. There is enough room and clearance that it would be easy to place an insulated box over the pump and small holding tank associated with the system to further block the sound. I don't think the pump runs enough to worry about heat buildup.

We leave our vacuum switch on almost all the time.

The only issue is occasional debris that prevents the seal in the bottom of the commode to allow enough vacuum and the pump cycles. Usually happens when people who are not used to the toilet don't flush with enough water and a little TP catches in the seal. Dometic provided tools with the documentation that make cleaning the seal very easy.

I had the Vacu-flush in my last coach and now in my HR. They are popular in coaches built by Allied with 2 toilets. Although they are designed to flush with less water, mine seems quieter with more water in the bowl.

You can leave the switch on all the time if you wish because the vacuum cycles the motor off. My systems have been reliable, no problems. Because they use so little water, its possible to get 25% more flushes between dumps. Also the vacuum moves the waste very fast to the tank and the velocity breaks it up eliminating the pyramid so its easy to empty.

Friends of ours had just purchased a new Bounder and had they known that it had the toilet mentioned they would have never purchased it. I've heard it and it is annoying. These toilets are used quite a bit in watercraft. I believe due to the distance from the toilet to the black water tank is the reason for this system and I don't believe there is any way to quiet it down.

Thanks "dahkota", we'll be looking for a way to quiet it up. It's really obnoxious.

If the coach arleady has one, great they do have their place and I've always liked them. Every time we bought a new boat, this was the first thing I had installed and on a boat they're great. I have on the MH and it's fine but I wouldn't install one as an option.

I think on a MH, the big advantage is being able to design an interior where the toilet is not directly over the BT so it opens up a lot of options for lay out.

Get the manual and follow the directions and all will be fine.

Turn the exhaust fan on then flush and take a breath. There is no additive on the planet that makes that tank smell like a field of Roses

I must be one of the chosen few I have no odors but then I don't stand there with the flap open and my head stuck in the bowel sniffing neither 😄

I should add I have a electric flush that creates a downward vacuum draw so I imagine that helps tremendously
