Driving Class A

I had the same problem. Found out that my front and rear antisway bars were missing rubber bushings.

Slowing down, especially in the mountains, will help a whole lot.

As ski said check the front end and sway bars. Then get some miles under your belt. Sitting higher exaggerates the turns. (One reason I don’t have an A)

Had the same results moving from a 5th wheel to a Class A, Found it handled a lot better if I just slowed down, just because limit is 70-75 doesn't mean I have to drive that fast. Found best handling at 62. Also google CHF for class A, it made a difference on mine. Sum it up I found I had to much Type A for my Class A. required attitude adjustment. Good Luck!

I know that feeling. I was not used to sitting 6 feet off the ground and feeling that horizontal sway takes some getting used to. We have now logged about 15,000 miles and I have forgotten about it. I bet you will do the same.

Do a search here for CHF or cheap handling fix. There's a bunch of stuff you can do the the F53 chassis that will make it behave.

A recent poll-type thread here on "What speed do you drive" seemed to average out between 60 and 65. Of course if anyone admitted to higher, the speed police here would have come out in full force so I'm not sure how truthful that was.

Keep in mind you're doing more "guiding" than "driving".

With that said, you should warm up to it and actually enjoy it. Until last Fall we had both a MH and a TT. I would **much** rather drive the MH than pull the TT, and I was pulling it with a Super Duty diesel with the proper hitch set up too.

The TT is gone, I don't expect we'll ever own another.

Any motorhome but especially Class A rigs will sway, bob and weave. It is expected. Sway bars and steering stabilizers, better shocks etc. help with handling, however, these things don't ever drive like passenger cars. Having had many trailers I would never want to go back to one. It is much less stressful to drive my motorhome vs tow a trailer.

Yes and yes.

The tipping is called SWAY and .. Well RV's tend to be "Top Heavy" with around 200 pounds of Air Conditioner on the roof. plus perhaps some other stuff. Cabinets full of Stuff all about eye level when INSIDE. and not nearly enough down where the axle is to offset.

SWAY bars can be upgraded by most RV dealers to improve this tipping.


The "Drift" (over steer) is likely "Tail wag" this is where the body moves slightly over the axle (right and left) Common with Leaf Springs. the solution is a TracBar or two.. Again Start with rear, (I started with front however and very happy).

The other improvement you likely should make is a steering stablizer. I suggest one with Remote Re-center so you can adjust from the driver's seet if needed due to conditions.

I know I'll get blasted for this but -------maybe high speed is the operative phrase here. No, I don't own nor drive a MH but spent a career driving heavy trucks from 10 wheeler's to 18 wheeler's and high speed wasn't part of the equation. Getting there safely was the goal, slowing down to a reasonable speed makes a much more enjoyable trip.
