Thinking about taking the MH to Durango,CO so we can take the Durango/Silverton train. Have been looking for someplace to spend a night in the middle of October but it appears all the parks close for the season. Anybody know of a park that is open at that time.

I'll third United.

Note this is an older park, roads and sites are a little tight.
Worth it when the trains come through though.

I also have stayed at the Alpen Rose and I recommend it. Since I have not stayed at the other parks, I cannot comment on them.

Rich, there are a few you may have missed.

For my dollar, I would stay at the United Campground...link below...It's right north a bit from the train station and the train, in fact, goes right THROUGH the campground. You can sit in your coach and watch the train go by twice a day. Also, the trolley stops by the entrance and will take you directly to the train station so you don't have to drive. Cost is a buck a person. Their rates are excellent.

Another campground is the Sky Ute Casino campground, nearby in Ignacio. Rated mostly 9s. Nice facilities, lots of room and you can use the casino/hotel facilities too. If gambling is in your blood, check them out.

Finally, there is the Bayfield Riverside park in Bayfield. They have a fishing creek running through the campground. Ask for a riverside site. Very nice owners.

We've stayed at all three and I've listed them in my order of preference....Dennis
