Emergency Flasher

2001 Newmar K star on a Freightliner chassis.Emergency flashers work for a few then stop on all on, no blink. Nothing on the dash fuse panel board and while I can hear the flasher squeal I can't find the relay/control. Can anyone tell what to look for or where in the jumble of wiring it might be located?

Found it, thanks in part to very nice folks at Newmar and Freightliner customer support. The gal at Newmar quickly transferred me to FL - and stayed on the line to make sure I got an answer! The FL rep found a part #, and suggested the relay was either under the dash or a "front LH compartment." Since I did not have a matching compartment I checked the front compartment over the genny. There is a box there with wiring harness and fuses for the genny and assorted stuff, as well as the turn signal and emergency flasher. Go figure. So, off to NAPA for a replacement. Kudos to Newmar and FL for their prompt and courteous support.

There is no detailed owner's manual. Guess Newmar figured we'd depend on service centers. The dash fuse panel lists 7 relays, none for the emergency flasher. The chime or "squeal" is tied to blinking dash lights - same as turn signal but I've not been able to pinpoint the source. I've spent as much time under the dash as my back can tolerate, to no avail. If I knew what the relay or switch looked like . . . Next step is disconnecting any likely device in turn, and hope I'm looking in the right place. First off to the drugstore for a bottle of Aleve.

The relay should not squeal, it should be making a clicking noise as it toggles between on and off. Look on the chassis fuse panel for either a round or square relay box about 1 inch in size. Since it is squealing, you might not be able to feel it vibrating. Have someone run the flashers while you feel each box. You should be able to feel the relay toggling. Also, if you have the owners manual yet, it will give you a picture of the fuse block and the location of the flasher.
