I agree, this isn't a dress rehearsal. Keep looking around for a used unit. I live in California and the one I wanted was in Minnesota. Road trip! Repairs are not as hard as you may
think. If you are handy around the house most items can be repaired with parts readily available and with the help on these forums folks will walk you through the process.
Take the plunge. Last hotel we stayed in, in Minneapolis to pick up the MH, was 90 bucks. It smelled, crappy coffee in the morning and who knows what in the bed or under it.
Nothing like having your home behind your drivers seat. Travel, enjoy, relax.
Funny you mention about you don't know what's in or under the bed of the hotel room, but you also mention about getting a used unit. All the used units we have ever looked at (unless under a year old or so) were a lot worse than any hotel I hnave ever stayed in.
I don't understand the logic of those (not pointing finger at who I quoted because it's always mentioned) that say they prefer to sleep in their own bed and mention bed bugs. But yet, the majority of them buy older used RV's that have god knows what in them. I wonder how many people actually change out the mattress. Then you have the fabric sofas, seats, curtains, carpet and etc....One can't be that scared to stay in a hotel if they are willing to purchase a unit with the unknown.
