Extended Warranty: Coachnet vs Wholesale Warranties?

I appreciate all the excellent info I have received. It made me do some serious research over the past couple weeks. I have decided to go with Coachnet for a couple reasons. I have dealt with them since 2004 for road service and have been very satisfied. Last year I negotiated a 7-year Road Service and Hazard Protect (tires) with Cochnet for what I think is a quite reasonable price. The agent I dealt with is the same person I have been working with on this warranty. Always aboveboard and anxious to answer any questions (dozens). The Coachnet plan I chose and the Wholesale Warranty plan have very similar EW provisions - The WW does add in some road service features I do not really need. I have no doubt WW is a good company.

I also found out today Coachnet has a 4-year program (48,000 miles) that only added about $1100 to the total. Which means my annual premium is only $250 more than the Good Sam plan I have. And Coachnet is much more comprehensive and a lower deductible.

Good Sam only offers only a yearly plan and seems inflexible on adding other coverages I wanted.

I have Wholesale Warranties, I won't go into all the details, but as far as I'm concerned, they're GREAT. went above and beyond what you'd expect from them.

Now you guys have me rethinking Extended Warranty versus banking the money. If I knew our Cat C7 engine (10 years/75,000 miles) and Allison 3000 transmission would last forever, we could likely handle whatever else comes along. We already decided if our Dometic 1292 frig dies again (we are on the 3rd cooling unit..) we will switch to a residential model, mostly out of our own pocket. We are no longer full-timers and are putting much less mileage on the MH past few years.

Just for comparison here are the EW costs we are facing/quoted:

Good Sam (already have this, year-to-year, pay monthly) - $1584 per year, $250 deductible (no radiator, no wiring, no "Consequential" coverage). Have only used this coverage for coach repairs, not chassis..no problems with them although some techs don't want to deal with Good Sam.

Coachnet - 3 yr/36,000 miles, $200 deductible, $2100 per year payable in full $6300 ("Ultimate" Includes surcharges for Consequential coverage, "Permanent Residence" (220 days or more in MH), and Aftermarket Electronics (e.g. new satellite dish). Also includes radiator, Wiring harnesses.

Worlwide Warranties - 3 yr/30,000 miles, $2,498 per year (includes 10% discount for full payment), $500 deductible. Includes Consequential Coverage, radiator, wiring harnesses. I think "extra" cost might result from some roadside assistance features which I do not need (bought a 7-year with Coachnet with 6 years remaining including both Roadside and Hazard/Tire Protection). WW also charges $350 for a mechanical inspection (included in quote) which is not refundable.

Complicating factor (which could affect others considering EW and/or change) - last time out heading home engine started to hesitate a bit, then a lot on level interstate (not caused by hills). After a couple days had a mobile service change out both fuel filters but problem did not completely disappear. New EW policies typically have a 30 day and 1000 mile exclusion (Coachnet contract says it, WW told me by phone). Any road trouble when we head out to Arizona next month would not be covered until we pretty much get to Arizona..ouch.

Which begs the question - keep existing Good Sam EW until Arizona in case we have any problems?

So future EW purchasers beware of the pitfalls of new/switched EW coverage. Most policies are refundable (prorated) but you'd like to get the best one up front.

I bought a new RV so I did not buy other people's problems.
Don't buy a new vehicle Extended Warranty. Coach Mfgr covers 1st year when most things should go out. Chassis mfgr covers 1st 3 years, 50k miles. Engine Mfgr cover 5 years, 100k miles. Trans mfgr covers 5 years no mileage limit. Individual parts (ie camera system, levers etc) are covered by that mfgr. also.
When we bought new RV, dealer stated at $19k 5years, went to $14k, to $9k 6years. That means the expensive stuff was covered for only 1 year. I said NO at final signing.
I'm doing a slush fund. Got $2k back from a prior Ext Warranty, I regretted buying, never used. Now saving $3-400/mo. until I get to $10k.
If I never use it I've got a great backup for any emergency, indefinity. NOT in someone else's pocket, for a specific period.

You will find that a service plan for an older unit is very expensive. Hardly worth the price.

Thought I had stem to stern coverage. Found out diesel particulate filters are not covered. Even though it was a probe failure that caused it. Cost me almost 4K. Do read the fine print. I bought the highest level coverage. It was one of the two companies mentioned.

Yes, I have all my annual service records going back to Dec 2004 starting with the 1st oil change etc. at the old Beaudry RV in Tucson AZ (we snowbird it in AZ). 1st couple years went back to dealer in Indiana, but got smarter and started using Freightliner in Tolleson AZ for all the check-ups the past 7 years. And the only chassis-related repair (AC) was done at a Freightliner in FT Wayne IN (which is not an Oasis facility and it took 3 trips to get the AC fixed).

Going back to the same place every year we feel confident in the record-keeping and have been cut a couple "breaks" over the years on service/parts. Tolleson AZ is an Oasis facility and the RV Service Manager (Kirk Ault) is great to work with. I have only ever seen one negative comment on rvservicereviews.com for them and the complaint (a while back) does not track with any of my experiences.

Plus they revamped their RV parking area 3 years ago and have full hookups with 50 Amp service for customers and a dog park. Sometimes you have to reserve ahead! (I don't get paid to say this...).

We may be talking about the same thing, but just to be clear, do you have all the required yearly or mileage related service records for the engine and the chassis? If so, and if the Coach Net RV Protect contract is reasonably priced, then it sounds like it would give you some peace of mind.
