Extender stay blocking?

I am planning to stay in one spot for several months next summer. Rather than leave the levelers extended for that period of time would it make sense to use them to level the motorhome, block it up then retract the levellers? Has anyone done this? I have the HWH hydraulic levellers with springs and they do tend to not retract well when deployed for several days.
  • They can take up to 5 minutes to fully retract, that's not unusual. Possibly those 11 year old springs have weakened and need replaced. I use a dry silicone spray to lube the shaft. Any lubricant with oil will tend to collect crud.

I would. Also I would perhaps once a month put them down and then retract back up just to keep them moving. I think one of the worst thing for RV's is to allow them to sit.
  • I leave my levelers down for 6 months while staying in the S.W. with no problems.
  • I leave my jacks down when I'm parked at home and have never had any problems. I think the longest time I've gone without using the MH has been two months tho.
Yes, I have been told that you should wipe them down and then use the DRY silicone spray. I also sometimes spray them with WD40, wipe them down, literally from top to bottom, then silicone spray and retract and go on a trip.
  • I made supports by "cribbing" 4x4's with a piece of 2x12 across the top, shimmed with 3/4" and 1/2" planks to get within 1/2" to 3/4" of the fully retracted jack pad with air suspension fully aired up. As the air pressure bleeds off over time, the MH settles on the cribbing and relieves the weight on the tires. I have stored the MH for up to four months using this method. If you choose to use a version of this, make sure you leave that gap between the jack pad and the top of the blocking. When you start up and air up after storage, the air bags do not always return the Coach to the exact height it was when you parked. Instead of the cribbing for blocks, some have cut railroad ties to length and stood them on end under the jack pads.
  • If my coach is going to be left very long at all the jacks are down and I have not had any issues in the three years that I have had it. The manual does recommend silicone spray every 6 months but I have not done it that often. I don't disagree with the manual, just let it slip. My jacks are power up.
