F53 oxygen sensor

I had my check engine light come on recently and after reading the code it seems I need to change an oxygen sensor out. Seems to me that at 23K miles it's a little premature for a failure. Has anybody had this same problem on this chassis?

I'll check that out next time I am at the coach. Thanks for the lead! I did notice that as I did more searching on the internet, the O2 sensor was less of a possibility.

The engine was quite warm when the code popped up. Hopefully the leak point will be evident....

The reader we used showed the exact sensor giving the trouble but I don't remember which one. I believe it was a downstream sensor. I'll reread it tomarrow and let you all know.

That's funny. I just had the first code on our old F53 V10 and it was fuel mixture lean bank 2. I hear it might be O2 sensor as well.

What code did it set? There's quite few codes associated with the O2 sensors. Not all of them mean a sensor is bad.

I get an O2 sensor code periodically. Use my Scangauge to reset it and it's fine for months.

Pick up a 6 point O2 sensor socket... it has a cutout for the wire... makes life easier. And while you are waiting to get the new one(s) , spray the old ones with penetrating oil and let it soak in a few days, if possible.

MikeM2: Do you know which one it is? Most likely you have multiples. 4 or more.

Electronics. There ain't no tellin'. They fail quickly or last forever. However, the O2 sensor might come under the 5 year/ 50,000 mile air pollution warranty.

g'luck!

How old is the RV? Most last 100,000 miles and are replaced at about 7 years old. I had to replace mine at about 45,000 miles when it was 15 years old on my 97 460" V8 Ford.

I do not consider it unreasonable. The part cost me only about $55, it is the same one used on the 1996 F-350 with the same engine.

I installed it myself, there is plenty of room under the RV to get to it.
