fiberglass roof "popping" fix

The fiberglass roof has a star shaped crack with about 6 two inch cracks radiating from a single point, which point appears to be slightly elevated. I don't have access to the space under the roof and have no reason to believe anything projected up to make the crack, leading me to believe perhaps the fiberglass "popped", like cement does sometimes.

I think the fix is to float a little transparent caulk sealer over it similar to the type we use to reseal around vents and other interruptions that penetrate the roof.

Transparent so I can watch it to see if it changes/grows.

Any ideas on source of problem or suggested fix.

I had spider cracks in my FG roof on a HI Top van, these did not crack the FG cloth under neath only cracked the gel coat. I would look very close at it again. I would also push on it to see if a nail is coming up through the roof causing the crack. Was the roof punctured by a falling tree limb or some other impact? A picture would help if you don't have a ft of snow on top. Where on the roof is the crack, in the flat area or in the radius, or next to an attachment area?
  • Well, the calking will keep it from leaking, but the cracks will propagate due to flexing of the MH. The cause of the damage should be found and corrected, then a fix for the problem. Sorry, but just calking it will not fix the problem.
  • Before putting any type of sealant on the crack, I would suggest that you Stop Drill the crack / cracks. By this I mean drill holes right where the crack ends. This should stop the crack from spreading.
  • GJAC, it appears that the fiberglass cracked and displaced upward, cracking the gel coat too.

Does the crack go through the fiberglass or is it just in the gelcoat?
