First Timer Looking for Advice

I am a first time buy and considering the Thor ACE EVO30.2. It is a small Class A bunkhouse.

All I am looking for is anyone who might have one or has some insight into issues I may be overlooking.

Anything helps. Thank you.
  • I have not owned a Thor but based on what others have said, there are a number of issues with the quality. I would look on the web at reviews and comments people have about the models you are considering.
  • Welcome to the forums!

I too am curious if you have camped before.

We started out with a small TT (Travel Trailer) then we sized up to a larger TT...then we went to a Class A and now just bought our second Class A. Each time was an evolution for us. We really loved our first little TT but it was lacking in things we wanted which is why we went to a larger one. We enjoyed that one but then decided to go motorized to 'simplify' or camping experience plus I travel 450 miles to help my 'sickly' parents regularly. We changed Class A's for many other reasons. The point is, as some have expressed, it was an evolution for us. I would not have changed anything I did but be prepared to 'want' to change shortly after you get your 'first' rig, coach or whatever based on many factors that can't be answered here.

The one thing I wish is to have camped in any of our TT's or coaches prior to buying say for a few days and up to a week. That would have answered many questions for us! I understand that there is a dealer near me that will let you camp in a used unit for a weekend to 'try it out'. They obviously can't do that with a new unit but it is an interesting premise!

    Good luck and happy camping!
  • I went with a short class A as my first. In hindsight not the best idea. I learned a lot about what I wanted though and I'm looking to upgrade to 34-35'.. Think about it a good bit to make sure it has enough space for you. At least that one has 2 slide outs, but upgrading to even a few feet longer coach could mean the difference from a cramped room or small shower.

More importantly the driving on my short coach wasn't great. That particular thor has a pretty good wheel base ratio though, and it's on the 18k chassis so probably it will drive considerably better than mine does.

I would take it out for a good spin though. Luckily there are mods you can do to help correct any driving issues, but it's worth the extra research.

also lastly that seems to have very limited exterior storage. Would be worth your time to figure out what you'd be hauling in it and make sure you'd have enough space!

    good luck!
  • Joe, welcome to RV.Net! I suggest that you make a budget of what you can comfortably afford to spend on a RV and stick to that budget. Next, I would look for a floor plan that suits your needs. Then engine and trans, and colors! Good Luck and happy camping.
  • Are you a first time camper also? just getting into camping? If so I would suggest renting a few times different size and style RVs to figure out what you like and don't like (floor plan, counter space for fixing food, sleeping arrangements, bathroom setup etc.) could save you a lot of money in the long run, buying new and not liking it and trading for something else. Would you be better off buying used?
  • Welcome to the forum. I can't help you with the Thor question.

Did you look at several different units before you decided on the Thor?
Make sure you like the floor plan and it works for you and/or your family.
Hopefully someone can give you some personal experience on the unit you are considering.

There is a lot of information available on the forum, don't hesitate to ask questions. And, don't be in a big hurry to buy.
Take your time and consider it a learning process.
