Fleetwood or Thor

We have begun resaching the purchase of a small 25' to 28' class A. We are still a few months away from making the purchase. We are looking closely at these 2 units.
Fleetwood Flair 26D and Thor Axis/Vegas 24.1

Hoping to hear pros and cons from onwers of the Flair and Axis/Vegas units. Even if it's a different floor plan.

What problems have you had and customer friendly were the manufactures.

Thanks in advance for any advice!!
  • I'd go for the one the wife likes the best.

All RV's are good and all RV's are bad so pick the one that has the best floor plan.
  • We have the vegas 24.1. We love the floorplan. I was a little concerned about going from our 50 amp bounder to a 30 amp mh with one air conditioner, but it hasn't been a problem. It cooled down just fine in the summer heat & humidity.

A couple of problems that we had: the large windshield developed a stress crack. Thor replaced it under warranty, even though we were out of warranty at the time. We were very happy about that. The newer models have a smaller windshield than the earlier models.

Also, the windshield washer pump was blowing its fuse when we tried to use it. We repaced the pump, and all is well now.

The thor forum has much discussion about it. One of the members put together a manual for it. Way more info than the generic manual that came with my mh. Here is a link the the thorforum. sorry, my tablet won't let me make a clicky.

  • Albeit we don't or haven't owned either MH's. We have owned numerous Thor products and will never own another. We have had Fleetwood and currently own one. Quality is a step up from the Thor. Clearly not as many issues ( serious issues with Thor) with Fleetwood.

You are comparing apples to oranges. The Fleetwood Flair is on the F53 chassis. So it's a true class A. The Axis/Vegas is on the E450 chassis so it's classified as an RUV. What does that translate into? Less weight capacity and a worse ride. Not that the F53 is like riding on clouds, but it does ride and handle better than the E450. That said many people like their Axis/Vegas units and there is nothing wrong with them, but you need to figure out if the cargo and towing capacity as well as ride comfort are things that matter in your decision. I just talked to a dealer the other day who sells Axis units and he said after he sells the ones he has on the lot he won't be ordering any more. Too many ride and driving complaints. But I've talked to Axis owners who have nothing but positive things to say, so to each his own. But at least get the details so you can make an educated decision and take both for a test ride. A like comparison would the Flair to the ACE. Of course every brand makes a small class A. Winnie is one worth looking at as well although less flexible on price.
  • I have a 2015 Vegas 24.1 and love everything about it. It is smaller but that is what i was looking for. Just the wife and I. I'd buy another one tomorrow. If you have any questions you can privet message me.

    Unless it's a full wall Schwintek. ;)
  • Both brands have pro and con. As mentioned choose the one that you both like. It is also important to buy from a local dealer, if possible. Makes warranty repairs easier and quicker.

Additionally I would look at reviews of the dealers you are looking to purchase from. Having a good dealer is worth thousands of $$$ in my humble opinion.

    Good luck!
