Floor plan 1995 HR Imperial...New to this adventure

We have just bought a Diesel pusher 1995 HR Imperial that has no slides, however has a large bathroom (no closet toilet) that one with a large asset can use comfortably.
The manual does not have the floor plan & thus lacks locations of all the switches & their functions. In fact, after reading the manual, it is enough to make one dangerous, in it's lack of in depth descriptions.
Being a pilot, aircraft owner, & mechanic with FAA ratings to do all the work, I am use to doing the maintenance & repair work but need the correct information.
HR will not help me for the RV is to old & they want to sell an other $200+K unit. So I am looking for help here.

We hope that we'll like this life style, but we are not in to it for to much $$$ so as we can sell out & get into a Shag Apartment....
Getting old sucks!!

"SUBSCRIPTION:" ??? I do not know what this is, thus left it in default.
  • On that age of RV the original manuals were lacking and usually consisted of a package containing the appliance manuals.

The best that you will find will be those manuals. So find the model #s of the individual appliance or device (stove, refer, tank gauge center, etc) and google to find the manual.

  • Whoever had our MH beforehand kept all the manual's. I have two very large binders filled with info....not that a Vogue manual will help with a HR but older MH's do come with extensive info!
  • All of the coach manuals can still be had off the net with type and model #s. The motor and trans manuals can also be down loaded from the net. If you get into the Monaco owners area a question should be forthcoming. The Freightliner chassis should also be an EZ search on the net. So that leaves the GEN manual again off the net and last the plumbing and electrical which is a bit harder but again a question asked in the Monaco area most times gets a answer fairly quick.
Might even get lucky and find someone to copy their manual.

  • Sadly, when it comes to specifics of a single floor plan, the manual on a $200K 2017 unit will often be nearly as useless as not having one at all. My rig came with an odd transfer switch that does nothing but allow the generator to run both AC units. It's a Winnebago, and was bought from a Winny dealer. During the PDI, the switch stumped two dealer techs. We then grabbed the company provided, soft sided briefcase with fifteen pounds of various manuals to read about the switch. You guessed it, absolutely no info. They had to call factory support to ask. Since then I have found several issues similar to that. I generally don't bother with the mass of paper provided by the company, and head straight for the laptop, and see what kind of support I can find online. Without exception, it has always been a lot more useful.

Some companies are great with providing info. on older units, some could care less. In the end you have a somewhat hand built house, on a truck frame. The thing was built on a fairly crude assembly line, often with semi-skilled, low paid help. The level of precision, execution and documentation will probably be pretty disappointing to somebody with an aviation background. OTOH, even with lack of documentation, and proper care, very few motorhomes fall out of the sky, LOL. Good luck, and try not to keep your standards too high, since it only leads to frustration.
  • I'm afraid you're on your own......any manuals I've found for my 1999 HR Endeavor are very lackluster in their technical information. As a mechanic and tech-savvy person, you'll be able to eventually, through trial and error, find everything you need to know about your coach. That's what I've been doing the past 3 years now. That, and relying on the good folks here on RVNet Forums for information and advice. Just ask and you will get an answer...sometimes a smart-@$$ one, but most of the time someone who's been there done that will get you in the right direction!
  • Find the Monaco Owner's groups on the net (I know there's one on iRV2.com). Other owners have digitized and uploaded manuals for most of the older rigs. I got the complete plumbing and wiring diagrams for the 1996 Sahara from a Yahoo group.

Don't try to bring everything up to aircraft grade :)
